Job Description

The Middle School Social Studies and Catholic Religion Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging instruction in social studies and Catholic religion that supports the academic, moral, social, and spiritual development of students. This position promotes historical thinking, civic responsibility, ethical reasoning, and faith formation while upholding the mission and values of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School (Baltimore County, MD) and the teachings of the Catholic Church in a safe, structured, and student-centered learning environment. This position is for the 2026–2027 school year.

Essential Functions

  • Follow and maintain knowledge of all Archdiocese of Baltimore (AOB) policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Plan and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate lesson plans using a variety of instructional strategies to motivate, challenge, and meet the diverse needs of middle school learners.
  • Design and execute an instructional program that supports the values, ideals, and mission of the Catholic Church and Our Lady of Mount
  • Carmel School while fostering historical inquiry, civic awareness, ethical decision-making, and faith development.
  • Create and maintain an organized, welcoming, and academically rigorous classroom environment conducive to respectful dialogue, critical thinking, and spiritual growth.
  • Actively and safely supervise students at all times, including during instructional and non-instructional periods.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies aligned with PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) protocols.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with students and parents regarding academic expectations, progress, achievements, and areas for growth through email, phone calls, conferences, and an electronic grade book on a weekly basis.
  • Respond to all parent communications in a professional, empathetic, and timely manner.
  • Maintain high professional and ethical standards consistent with the mission of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School and the teachings of the Catholic Church, serving as a positive role model of faith and character.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, staff, and administration to plan, implement, and evaluate curriculum and instructional programs across grade levels.
  • Integrate Google Workspace (G Suite) for Education and other instructional technologies effectively to support a 21st-century social studies and religion learning environment.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of all learners in alignment with the established curriculum.
  • Attend and actively participate in all faculty meetings, professional development sessions, grade-level meetings, and curriculum meetings.
  • Attend graduation, open houses, liturgies, and other after-hours school events as requested.
    Serve on school committees as assigned.
  • Comply with all applicable AOB, state, local, and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Perform non-teaching duties as assigned, including recess, lunch, arrival, and dismissal supervision

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Studies, Theology, Religious Studies, or a related field
  • MSDE teacher certification preferred
  • Strong content knowledge in middle school social studies and Catholic religion, including best practices in inquiry-based instruction and faith formation
  • Knowledge of curriculum design and effective instructional strategies for middle school learners
  • Proficiency in integrating technology into daily instruction to enhance and differentiate learning
  • Practicing Catholic required
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a faith-based educational environment

Range: $45,000 – 60,000, Annualized

Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience for this role, and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, which is determined upon company and individual performance.
