Why teach at the British Council – Natalia's Story
& Purpose
We are seeking a passionate and committed Core Teacher of English to join our well-established Teaching Centre in Prague and deliver high-quality, engaging learning experiences that inspire students to succeed. In this role, you will provide learners with a rewarding and stimulating English language journey, ensuring excellent standards of teaching and fostering effective learning in line with the British Council’s global English strategy and cultural relations mission.
Our centre delivers approximately 13,000 teaching hours each year across Young Learners, adult classes and an expanding corporate portfolio, operating within a competitive market where innovation and quality are key, particularly as we continue to grow our Young Learner provision while sustaining adult enrolments.
You will be part of a supportive academic management structure comprising a Senior Teacher and Coordinators, reporting to one of these roles, and collaborating closely with colleagues across our regional network in Poland, Greece, Slovakia and Hungary. As a Core Teacher, you will play an integral part in upholding the British Council’s reputation as a global authority in English Language Teaching by delivering consistently high standards in the classroom, engaging in continuous professional development, and actively contributing to the sharing of best practice.
You will be expected to participate fully in our established CPD programme, bringing a proactive and reflective approach to your own development while supporting colleagues and contributing to a culture of excellence and collaboration. Role Accountabilities
In this role, you will plan, prepare and teach engaging lessons tailored to different learning styles and individual needs, ensuring that all teaching meets the British Council Global Teaching Standards as well as organisational and learner expectations. You will closely monitor student progress, providing regular and constructive feedback to support performance and encourage learner autonomy, while maintaining a strong focus on continuous improvement through active participation in professional development and performance management processes. Your commitment to excellence will help ensure that teaching standards remain at the forefront of English Language Teaching practice.
Beyond the classroom, you will play an active role in the wider activities of the Teaching Centre, supporting its plans and contributing to the ongoing development, evaluation and enhancement of courses, materials and services. You will collaborate with colleagues as part of a dynamic teaching team, attend staff meetings and contribute ideas to improve the student experience. You will also support local marketing and promotional initiatives and help deliver outstanding customer service by communicating effectively with students and sharing relevant information.
Maintaining high professional standards, you will complete all required administrative tasks accurately and on time, while consistently demonstrating the British Council’s values and behaviours in your work. Building and maintaining positive relationships with both customers and colleagues and acting as an ambassador for the British Council’s cultural relations is are a mission themselves.
You will ensure full compliance with safeguarding, data protection, equality, diversity and inclusion, special educational needs and disability, and health and safety policies, applying these consistently in your daily work.
