The Teacher Librarian is responsible for managing the school library as a dynamic learning space that supports the academic curriculum, fosters a love for reading, and develops research and information literacy skills among students.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
1. Library Management
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the school library
- Maintain and update the library collection (books, digital resources, journals, etc.)
- Ensure proper cataloguing, classification, and circulation of resources
- Create an organized, accessible, and student-friendly library environment
2. Teaching & Learning Support
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into the curriculum
- Support inquiry-based learning, research projects, and Extended Essays (IB context)
- Conduct library orientation sessions and research skills workshops
- Guide students in information literacy, referencing, and ethical use of resources
3. Reading Culture & Engagement
- Promote a strong reading culture across the school
- Organize book fairs, author visits, reading challenges, and literacy events
- Curate age-appropriate reading lists and recommendations
- Support differentiated reading needs of students
4. Digital Literacy & Resources
- Manage and promote digital library platforms and e-resources
- Support students and staff in using online databases and research tools
- Encourage responsible digital citizenship
5. Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with faculty across grade levels and subjects
- Support curriculum planning with relevant resources
- Communicate regularly with students, teachers, and parents regarding library initiatives
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Library Science / Information Science / Education
- Prior experience as a school librarian or teacher librarian preferred
- Familiarity with IB / Cambridge / international curricula is an advantage
