Job Description

Bishop Walsh School in Cumberland, Maryland, is seeking a qualified full‑time English Language Arts Teacher for the 2026–2027 academic year.

The Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher would be responsible for all curriculum instruction for grades 6-8. The ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students is imperative. The teacher also should be knowledgeable regarding technology integration in lessons.

Essential Functions

  • Provide grade appropriate instructional program for students that adheres to the school's philosophy, goals, and objectives.
  • Maintains an attractive, organized, and engaging learning environment.
  • Develop lesson plans with clear objectives in line with the Archdiocese of Baltimore and State of MD Standards.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
  • Provides regular and consistent communication with parents, students, staff, and administration.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, their families, and other employees outside the school.
  • Perform additional duties when needed for the supervision of students before, during, or after school.
  • Participates in faculty meeting, school committees, and in-service learning opportunities.
  • Maintain high professional standards consistent with the mission of the school and the teaching of the Catholic Church.
  • Responsible for the safety and active supervision of students at all times, and for classroom management using PBIS (positive behavior intervention and support) protocols.
  • Works collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and administration.
  • Attend school events including Back to School Nights, Open Houses, Parent/Teacher conference days, and other events as requested by the administration.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and current MSDE certification or willing to obtain.
  • Successful experience in student teaching or classroom teaching.
  • Basic understanding and acceptance of Catholic school philosophy, goals, and objectives.
  • Must be proficient in using a variety of technology during daily lessons as well as to enrich and differentiate instruction.

Pay Range: $35,000 – 50,000, Annualized
