Teacher - Early ChildhoodFacilitates learning and teaching in an integrated, inclusive preschool classroom (ages 3-5 years); plans and administers small and large group instruction. Develops and implements, with input from colleagues, lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate and individualized for the student population being served. Responsible for providing positive interactions with students, families and colleagues. Performs daily administrative functions. Adheres to all Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS), Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC) and Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Rules and Regulations for Preschool Programs.
MINIMUM EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education

- Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education
SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
- Supervises Educational Assistant IV (EA IV) position/s as required by the Early Childhood Department
ESSENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
- Assist students with toilet, diapering, feeding and other related assistance
- Supervision of outdoor play in weather that is accordance with CDHS licensing regulations
- Environment that may include potential volatile outbursts
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Occasional lifting twenty (20) to thirty five (35) pounds
- Frequent sitting, including on the ground or low chairs
- Occasional bending, squatting, standing, pushing
Provide input to the evaluation of Special Education Assistant (EA IV) positions in the classroom and zone
Conduct proper cleaning and sanitizing of classroom in accordance with Douglas County Health Board and CDHS regulations
Prepare and conduct parent conferences
Implement all classroom curricula with fidelity and make data-based decisions to share student progress
Perform delegated health tasks or duties as trained by the nurse or health technician including, but not limited to, medication authorization, g-tube feedings and/or catheterizations as needed by students
Perform diapering and toileting support for students as needed
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested
Purchase classroom supplies in accordance with DCSD purchasing policies
Maintain students’ ongoing assessment documents, including Individual Learning Plans for students and Teaching Strategies GOLD
Attend and participate as an active team member in IEP-related meetings
Attend and participate in mandatory 15 hours of ongoing professional development in all competency areas in accordance with CDHS
Respond to and correct all CDHS violation reports within the specific timeframe given by the licensing specialist
Assist special service providers by being knowledgeable of and working on students' IEP goals
Initiate weekly site reviews and complete lesson plans for classroom instruction
Report daily student attendance in Student Information System as well creating and maintain daily sign in and out sheets for families
Provide mentoring support to other Early Childhood Instructors as requested by colleagues or supervisors, after completing qualified mentor training
Operate a model classroom open to having colleagues observe instructional environment and practices. Must maintain a Quality Rating of at least 4.5 as measured by ECERS for this model classroom
Oversee the day-to-day operation of the classroom such as preparing class materials, student and parent needs
Assist in supervision of Education Assistants in the classroom, includes delegation of work, training on classroom procedures, maintaining/assisting in staff file information in accordance with CDHS regulations
Maintain student and staff files in accordance with CDHS regulations
