Position: Teacher Consultant for Autism Spectrum

Disorders/Behavior Coach

Posting Dates: September 24, 2026 � Until Filled

Reports To: Harbor Lights/Macatawa Bay Middle & West Ottawa High School Principals

Beginning: November 9, 2026

Qualifications:

• Valid Michigan teaching certificate required.
• Master's degree in Special Education or a closely related field.
• Michigan special education endorsement in Autism Spectrum Disorder (SV) or Emotional Impairment (SE) required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience in special education.
• Demonstrated experience working successfully with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or significant behavioral needs.
• Strong knowledge of evidence-based practices for students with ASD and behavioral needs.
• Demonstrated ability to use student data to develop, implement, monitor, and adjust interventions.
• Strong understanding of positive behavioral interventions and supports, functional behavior assessment, behavior intervention planning, and proactive classroom practices.
• Demonstrated ability to coach, collaborate with, and build the capacity of educators.
• Excellent communication, organization, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to establish positive and trusting relationships with students, staff, families, and administrators.
• Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a collaborative district team.

Job Responsibilities:

• Assist staff with the development and implementation of visual schedules, video models, and behavioral strategies.
• Consult on behavioral management techniques.
• Assist staff and parents with positive intervention strategies. Assist with problem solving meetings.
• Program planning for ASD.
• Assist with developing behavior intervention plans.
• Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learning of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional development meetings.
• Collaborate with other consultants regarding teacher training through OAISD.
• Attend IEP's or other meetings.
• Observe students and brainstorm appropriate strategies for academic and/or behavioral difficulties.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
• Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
• Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
• Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
• Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
• Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
• The worker is subject to environmental conditions.
• The worker should provide consistent and reliable in-person attendance.
