This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Provides direction for the children in the classroom and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Supports implementation of curriculum within the established guidelines.
  2. Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
  3. Helps with the supervision of children, classroom, and all activities.
  4. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  5. Cultivates positive relationships, maintains effective communication

    with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
  6. Help maintain program site and equipment.
  7. Maintains required program records / documentations.
  8. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  9. Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth.
  10. Attends required abuse risk management training.
  11. Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
  12. Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  13. Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  14. Ability to work Monday – Friday 8am – 12pm
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law (if the state sets requirements. The YMCA should establish minimum qualification standards if the state has

    no requirements).
  2. At least 18 years of age
  3. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and assigned Redwoods trainings within 30 days of

    hire date
    1. Child Abuse Prevention supports the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by:
      1. Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members, or guests to your supervisor.
      2. Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children.
      3. Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
      4. Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
  4. Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  5. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate

    program activities.
  6. Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
