Job Description

A Child Care Teacher Aide assists the Center Director or a Teacher in implementing activities for a group of children. A Teacher Aide must meet California licensing requirements. A Teacher may also be responsible for the supervision of a Teacher Aide. The Teacher Aide must meet all the Title 22 licensing requirements for an aide in school age center. The Teacher Aide position will be assigned to work at a school location. The Teacher Aide must meet all requirements to be on campus issued by federal, state, county and city government authorities. Due to the direct supervision and ratio requirements outlined by the State of California, this position will not have an option to work from home during program operational hours.

SALARY RANGE: $22.00-$24.00/hour

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work with Teachers to develop age appropriate activities for children.
  • Work with Teachers to supervise children while maintaining ratios that meet requirements for Title 22.
  • Meet and greet all children and parents daily.
  • Help maintain a clean and well organized facility.
  • Attend all staff meetings and all training events.
  • Work as a team member of the child care center and the YMCA.
  • Follow all YMCA policies for working with youth and vulnerable adults.
  • Complete required abuse prevention training.
  • Supervise high-risk activities responsibly and report any unsafe or inappropriate behavior.
  • Follow mandated reporting laws for suspected abuse.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Visual and auditory ability to observe and to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
  • Ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Ability to climb, push, and pull.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 20 pounds.

Qualifications

  • This position requires a commitment to the YMCA mission and its core values of: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility as well as a commitment to building developmental assets in adults and youth.   • Prior experience working with children in an organized progra m (preferred).
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid (or be certified within 30 days of hire).
  • Complete YMCA child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire.
  • All personnel shall be in good health and shall be physically and mentally capable of performing assigned tasks. Verification of good healthy by a health screening, including a test for TB, not more than one year prior to their start date or three days after employment.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Obtain a California clearance or a criminal record exemption as required by law (from DOJ/CACI and FBI) prior to working with children and on site.
