JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Teacher Aide - Burbank Early Childhood School

Reports to: Assistant and Lead Teacher, Director of Burbank Early Childhood School

Employment Status: Classified/Hourly

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Probationary Period: 120 work days

Pay: $18.28 - $19.02/HR

Description: Supports the assistant and lead teachers with classroom

NOTE: The lists below are not ranked in order of importance

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience with groups of young children
  • Certified training in child abuse recognition and prevention, communicable disease recognition and management, first aid and CPR

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Effective, active listening skills
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Basic computer skills and excellent keyboarding skills
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing situations
  • Student management skills

Essential Functions:

  • Attend and fully participate in all classroom functions and activities, including, but not limited to indoor & outdoor exploration, field trips, and other school-wide events (such as open houses).
  • Assist teachers with classroom curricular activities.
  • Promote good social relationships between children.
  • Ensure the safety of students.
  • Be familiar with ODE and NAEYC standards, as well as the Burbank curriculum.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all information at all times, e.g., student records.
  • Interact positively with staff, students, and parents.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and required in-services.

  • Practice the Burbank Early Childhood School philosophy.
  • Establish and promote successful relationships among children and adults.
  • Contribute to a high-quality classroom environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

  • Fax machine
  • Telephone/cellular phone
  • Postage machine
  • Other office equipment as needed

Additional Working Conditions:

  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
  • Exposure to loud noises
  • Repetitive hand motion, e.g., computer keyboard, typing
  • Interruption of duties by students, visitors, staff, and/or telephoning
  • Frequently move and position oneself as necessary to access and operate equipment;
  • Frequently move around the workspace and travel throughout the school building;
  • Occasional requirement to lift, carry, push, and pull various supplies and equipment up to a maximum of 25 pounds
  • Occasional interaction with unruly students
