We are thrilled to invite a compassionate and dedicated Teacher to join our Team! We are seeking an educator who will create a warm, supportive, and inclusive environment that empowers young leaders with special needs to thrive. In this role, you’ll work closely with children, particularly in preschool settings, providing individualized support and engaging, adaptive activities tailored to each child’s unique strengths. As a teacher, you’ll guide children ages 3-5 years of age in our specialized program, developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) to promote their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions of Position:

  • Provide individual and/or small group academic and behavior support interventions for students
  • Prepare for and participate in IEP meetings of students
  • Prepare IEP mandated instruction to students with disabilities
  • Participate in meetings that focus on reviewing data to identify or adjust interventions for students who are not meeting grade level benchmarks
  • Collaborate closely with Education Coordinator, behavior support staff, and other RS Providers
  • Collect pre/post assessment data and ongoing progress monitoring data
  • Communicate regularly with caregivers and provide progress updates
  • Collaborating in an interdisciplinary planning and teaching team that meets the needs of all students
  • Implementing curriculum and assessments that are aligned to Common Core Learning/NYS Standards and Creative Curriculum
  • Using data gathered through formative and summative assessments to guide instructional planning
  • Practicing an open-door policy that encourages collaboration and development of best practice pedagogy
  • Serving as an advisor to a small group of students, including maintaining ongoing communication with parents/guardians
  • Initiating partnerships and mentoring relations with HeartShare personnel and faculty to enhance school experiences and develop external learning experiences
  • Maintaining regular and open communication with families by providing regular written updates on student progress and creating opportunities for family participation, inclusion, and collaboration
  • Communicating student achievement data with parents and families through TEAMS
  • Taking on duties that support classroom teaching (meeting in departments, implementing school policy, being an active part of school decision-making, communicating with parents throughout the school year to support student achievement, etc.)

Qualifications

  1. N.Y.S. Approved Certification – Students with Disabilities: Internship, Initial or Professional (preferred)
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field AND valid certification issued by the State Education Department. OR
  3. Bachelor’s degree in an Early Childhood Education or related field AND two years of supervised and documented relevant experience in a preschool program. OR
  4. Proposed Plan

State Requirements for uncertified Pre-K lead teachers to be study plan eligible:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field and a written study plan for obtaining Early Childhood (Birth- Grade 2) certification.
  • Pre-K study plan teachers must have at least one year of experience teaching children up to the third grade.
  • Pre-K study plan teachers are required to complete 3–6 credits in early childhood education within the first six months of hire.
  • Pre-K study plan teachers must obtain the necessary early childhood certification by five years from their date of hire.
  • Must not have been previously employed by the D.O.E. in the past year

Physical Requirements

  • Walk to and from various locations in the building.
  • May lift or push wheelchairs of children being served.
  • Physical intervention techniques may be required to aid the children in challenging moments.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision and ability to focus.
