The role | Te tūnga

Join the National Library to support delivery of Te Puna Services - used by over 90% of libraries across Aotearoa to enable cataloguing, resource sharing, and discovery. This is a fixed-term role to 30 June 2027, providing backfill support within the team.

As a Te Puna Specialist, you will play a key role in providing high-quality, customer-focused services to member libraries. You’ll be a trusted point of contact, supporting day-to-day use of Te Puna, responding to enquiries, delivering training, and ensuring libraries have the tools and information they need to serve their communities.

You’ll work closely with libraries, colleagues, and vendors to maintain reliable service delivery, support core systems and processes, and contribute to a consistent and positive experience for users.

This role combines hands-on library expertise with customer-focused service delivery, working closely with libraries to support their operations and ensure a high-quality, responsive service experience.

What you bring | Nōu te rourou

  • A recognised library and information tertiary degree.
  • Significant experience in the provision of library services, including specialised experience in either cataloguing and metadata or resource sharing.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
  • Knowledge of Te Puna Services and/or systems such as WorldCat, WorldShareILL, and WorldShare Metadata tools would be an added benefit.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide expert support and advice to Te Puna member libraries
  • Deliver training and develop clear, user-focused guidance
  • Act as a primary contact for service queries and issue resolution
  • Build strong, effective relationships across the library sector
  • Support delivery of cataloguing, metadata, and resource sharing services
  • Maintain key systems, data, and service processes
  • Work with vendors and internal teams to ensure service reliability
