This position is a member of our Waste Permits Division
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Conduct engineering and technical reviews and senior-level evaluations of advanced applications, report and plans pertaining to waste management; determine compliance with applicable laws, rules, technical principles, policies, and procedures; and process to completion.
Provide training, including mentoring staff. Develop and apply expert level technical and regulatory expertise.
Provide information concerning authorizations and authorization processes to internal and external customers through verbal communication, correspondence, meetings, presentations, and public hearings.
Lead or participate in special projects, such as maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), rule writing, bill analysis, guidance document development, and streamlining work processes.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working with environmental regulations (e.g. landfills, permitting, industrial and hazardous waste, recycling, notifications, etc.).
Experience working with Texas regulations.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Engineer I
Texas Professional Engineer's license.
Engineer II
Texas Professional Engineer's license plus one year of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure. Qualifying work experience that obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.
Career Ladder Progression One year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer I.
Engineer III
Texas Professional Engineer's license plus two years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure. Qualifying work experience that obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.
Career Ladder Progression One year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer II.
Engineer IV
Texas Professional Engineer's license plus three years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure. Qualifying work experience that obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.
Career Ladder Progression One year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer III.
Engineer V
Texas Professional Engineer's license plus four years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure. Qualifying work experience that obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.
Career Ladder Progression One year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer IV
Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES
This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Engineer I-V state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Engineer I-V series.
Work Schedule
Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Austin Headquarters Office.
