Job Description

The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.
We’re looking for a TBM Mechanic to keep our Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) moving forward. This role is critical to minimizing downtime, performing field repairs, and executing preventative maintenance to keep the machine operating at full speed. You’ll work shoulder-to-shoulder with operators, electricians, and engineers in a fast-paced, underground environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues across all TBM systems, including cutterheads, conveyors, hydraulic circuits, and support gear
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance to reduce risk of failure during critical dig operations
  • Respond to unplanned breakdowns quickly and effectively with field-ready mechanical solutions
  • Inspect, adjust, and rebuild mechanical components as needed to extend machine life
  • Work underground and on rotating shifts to support 24/7 tunnel progress
  • Document mechanical issues and solutions to support continuous improvement

Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience as a heavy equipment or industrial mechanic—mining, tunneling, or oilfield experience preferred
  • Solid understanding of hydraulic systems, gearboxes, rotating equipment, and rigging fundamentals
  • Ability to work in confined, underground environments and adapt to high-pressure repair scenarios
  • Hands-on mentality and willingness to get dirty to get the job done
  • Experience working with TBMs, roadheaders, or similar mining equipment is a major plus

CultureWe're a team of dedicated, smart, and scrappy people. Our employees are passionate about our mission and determined to innovate at every opportunity.
Benefits We offer employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan, paid holidays, paid vacation, and a competitive amount of equity for all permanent employees.

About The Boring Company

To solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic, roads must go 3D, which means either flying cars or tunnels. Unlike flying cars, tunnels are weatherproof, out of sight and won't fall on your head. A large network of tunnels many levels deep would fix congestion in any city, no matter how large it grew (just keep adding levels). The key to making this work is increasing tunneling speed and dropping costs by a factor of 10 or more – this is the goal of The Boring Company. Fast to dig, low cost tunnels would also make Hyperloop adoption viable and enable rapid transit across densely populated regions, enabling travel from New York to Washington DC in less than 30 minutes.
