Operations individuals are critical thinkers who partner with groups across the firm to ensure accurate tax withholding and reporting for the firm and our clients. You will assist in creating and supporting scalable processes to support the firm’s global business segments in Global Banking & Markets, Asset & Wealth Management, Platform Solutions, and Advisory Solutions. You will gain extensive exposure and knowledge of US regulations around 1099, 1042-S, and Canadian tax reporting including corporate action tax processing, 871(m) withholding on certain derivative investments, Backup Withholding, Chapter 3 Withholding, and Chapter 4 Withholding.
OUR IMPACT
Tax Operations is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the firm’s compliance with reporting authorities around the globe and managing related inquiries from a variety of the firm’s business segments across Global Banking & Markets, Asset & Wealth Management, Platform Solutions, and Advisory Solutions. Day-to-day team functions include accurate and timely tax data analysis and processing, including Cost Basis tracking; reconciliations of firm and client withholding obligations, client information reporting to the US and Canadian tax authorities, reviewing and responding to client inquiries around unique tax situations, 871(m) withholding and reporting on certain derivatives, and regulatory filings.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Reviewing and responding to client information reporting tax inquiries with timely and accurate analysis of the facts and circumstances
Providing tax-related operational support to the firm’s Investment Professionals, Client Service Reps, and clients
Reviewing and responding to inquiries from Tax Authorities and Regulators
Complex corporate actions analysis
Supporting US and State tax regulatory filings
Ensure data accuracy and integrity of regulatory tax filings
Reviewing and solving breaks and exceptions arising from inconsistencies with upstream data producers
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree
3 years relevant work experience in Operations, Taxation, Accounting, Auditing, or related field
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to understand complex workflows
Results orientated with the ability to balance time-sensitive projects while maintaining a longer term, strategic focus
Excellent communication skills with an ability to influence senior business stakeholders and make decisions
Strong attention to detail
Proactive and self-starting individual with high level of ownership
Questioning mindset with an ability to recognize potential risk and flag to managers
Flexibility and ability to learn quickly
Ability to work across various teams to complete time-sensitive tasks
Strong data analysis skills
Intermediate/advanced Excel skills essential
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Accounting, auditing, or reconciliations background is preferred, with an understanding of large-scale reporting
Understanding of NRA, FATCA, and Backup withholding rules
Prior exposure to IRS Forms 945, 1042, 1099, and 1042-S
Prior exposure to Canadian Forms T5 and T5008
SQL and Alteryx skills
