Meaningful Work From Day One:

As the Tax Manager for our Brazil legal entity (Brown-Forman Brazil), you will step into a high-impact role, leading all statutory tax compliance and U.S. GAAP/statutory tax accounting. You will be instrumental in ensuring accurate and timely preparation of all tax-related filings and entries. This position involves close coordination with the Global Tax team and external advisory firms to drive strategic tax planning projects and ensure that returns and reports are prepared in accordance with local regulations.

What You Can Expect:

Tax Compliance and Tax Accounting:

  • Lead the accurate and timely completion of all monthly and annual tax and informational filings to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Municipal tax laws (covering direct and indirect taxes)

  • Ensure that the tax books and accounting tax records are correctly and timely recorded and aligned with Brown-Forman accounting guidelines, CPC (Brazilian Accounting Pronouncements Committee), and IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards)

  • Review and approve the U.S. GAAP and statutory calculations for taxable income, current tax, and deferred tax, as well as the annual tax true-up adjustment

  • Coordinate and supervise the submission of the various tax reporting files to Corporate Tax (quarter and annual), including quarterly forecasts of U.S. GAAP income before taxes and tax expense

  • Ensure tax obligations are submitted in the Government system:

    • SPED Tax and Accounting

    • SPED Contributions

  • Update billing and tax accounting systems (SAP and BFSO) in accordance with changes in legislation of PIS, COFINS, Excise Tax, Importation Tax, Income Tax, and protocols related to ICMS-ST

  • Control withholding tax on services to third parties (IR, ISS, INSS, PCC)

  • Perform/review monthly accounting reconciliations of taxes (PIS/COFINS/Excise Tax/ICMS/ICMS-ST) of goods, fixed assets, material promotion, etc

Brazilian Tax Reform and Strategic Tax Management:

  • Lead the Company’s response to the Brazilian Tax Reform

    • Analyzing draft legislation and proposed changes to assess the impact on BFB's tax burden, systems, and compliance processes

    • Developing and executing transition plans for adapting billing, tax determination, and accounting systems (SAP) to comply with new legislation

  • Oversee the process for securing the data requested by transfer pricing consultants to meet Brazil transfer pricing documentation requirements; review the draft reports prepared by the consultants and provide comments to ensure reports are completed in a timely and efficient manner

  • Review intercompany transactions, including relevant transfer pricing strategies and necessary documentation

  • Proactively develop and propose tax strategies to help improve/reduce Brown-Forman Brazil´s tax liabilities by working with Corporate Tax teams, external consultants, and the different industry chambers, such as Abrabe and ABBD

  • Provide guidance and support to the organization regarding tax guidelines and rules

Audit and Team Development:

  • Coordinate and supervise information submitted to internal and external auditors and different Brazilian authorities

  • Prepare information to respond to tax authority requests; prepare information for tax audits, and collaborate on reviews to guarantee a successful outcome. Communicate status to the different stakeholders and follow up on progress and completion

  • Coordinate and approve the completion of the quarterly tax audit questionnaire submission to Corporate Tax and provide additional updates to the Director of Tax Audits at Corporate as necessary

  • Follow up on open tax credits and proactively implement strategies to recover/compensate promptly

  • Lead, develop, and motivate team members to reach personal, department, and Company goals

  • Actively participate in different forums within the industry, such as the Brazilian Beverages Association (Abrabe & ABBD), to understand potential tax reforms and the impacts on BFB´s tax obligations, and proactively defend the company´s interests

  • Develop and maintain a professional network of peers within the BFB office

  • Maintain a network with consultants and regulating bodies to ensure BFB is updated on changes in laws and regulations

  • Participate/lead projects as required

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor of Accounting Sciences, Administration, Economy, or Similar

  • 7+ years in similar positions

  • High-level experience in Brazilian tax legislation and technical tax requirements

  • Proficient in English (oral and written)

  • Experience in SAP or a similar ERP

  • Proficient in Excel and/or Google Sheets

  • Experience as a people manager, training and developing teams

  • Experience in multi-national organizations with a broad global presence
