Our client, a leading professional services firm in Malta, is currently looking for a Tax Manager to lead a team and provide tax advisory services to a portfolio of both local and international clients. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated tax professional to take on a leadership role, manage complex client relationships, and contribute to the firm's technical knowledge base.
This is a hybrid role offering a salary of up to €50K.
Role & Responsibilities
Act as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of complex local and international clients on all tax matters, building and maintaining strong client relationships
Lead and oversee the delivery of tax compliance for complex clients, including the review and approval of advanced tax computations, returns, and refund claims
Provide high-quality tax advisory services on domestic and international matters, including restructurings and complex transactions, ensuring technically robust and tax-effective outcomes
Interpret and apply Maltese tax legislation, double taxation treaties, EU directives, and international tax principles to practical client situations
Identify and manage tax risks, approve appropriate tax treatments, and maintain effective tax management processes
Maintain effective working relationships with the Inland Revenue Department on complex matters and keep up to date with local and international tax developments
Lead and manage a tax team, ensuring clear delegation, supervision, and accountability across engagements, while providing technical guidance and coaching
Support Partners on engagements, including fee negotiation, billing, profitability, and ownership of WIP and debtor positions
Contribute to internal training, technical guidance, and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring firm policies and due diligence requirements are consistently applied
Education, Skills & Experience
Hold an MQF Level 7 qualification in a relevant subject
A minimum of 6 years' experience working in Tax, with experience leading or mentoring team members
Excellent knowledge of Malta's tax law, double taxation treaties, EU directives, and developments in international taxation, as well as their practical implications
A broad understanding of macro-economic issues, regulatory requirements, and taxation strategies, including income tax, indirect tax, personal and corporate tax
Able to easily apply tax knowledge to practical situations and develop creative ways to obtain the most advantageous fiscal position for clients
Fluency in English, both written and verbal
