Compensation: $115,000 - $145,000 / year

The Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization's tax compliance, reporting, and planning activities to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant tax filings across all jurisdictions. This role manages federal, state, local, and industry-specific tax obligations while partnering with Finance, Accounting, Payroll, and external advisors to minimize tax risk and support strategic business initiatives. Working closely with the VP of Accounting and Finance leadership, the Tax Manager develops and maintains tax processes, monitors changes in tax laws and regulations, supports audits and regulatory examinations, provides guidance on tax implications for business operations and organizational growth, and prepares the Company’s tax provisions. This position also identifies opportunities to improve tax efficiency, strengthen internal controls, and ensure compliance with all applicable reporting requirements. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with strong technical tax expertise, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while supporting a growing, multi-state organization.

Tax Compliance
- Oversee the preparation, review, and timely filing of federal, state, local, and industry-specific tax returns and regulatory filings.
- Ensure compliance with applicable tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements across all operating jurisdictions.
- Manage business sales and use tax, excise tax, franchise tax, property tax, payroll tax, and other applicable tax filings.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and communicate potential business impacts to leadership.
Tax Planning & Strategy
- Partner with Finance leadership to develop tax planning strategies that support business objectives and minimize tax exposure.
- Research tax issues and provide recommendations regarding business transactions, acquisitions, and organizational initiatives.
- Evaluate tax implications of new products, business operations, and expansion into new markets.
- Support long-term tax planning and forecasting activities.
Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Prepare and review tax provisions, reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules and disclosures.
- Collaborate with the Accounting team during month-end and year-end close processes.
- Ensure tax accounts within the general ledger are accurate and properly reconciled.
- Assist with financial statement disclosures related to income taxes.
Audits & Regulatory Support
- Coordinate tax audits, examinations, and information requests from federal, state, and local agencies.
- Partner with external tax advisors and auditors to support annual audits and compliance reviews.
- Maintain accurate tax documentation and records in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Resolve tax notices, assessments, and inquiries in a timely manner.
Process Improvement & Internal Controls
- Develop, implement, and maintain tax policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to improve tax processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
- Support implementation and optimization of software and tax reporting systems.
- Maintain documentation to support compliance, audit readiness, and knowledge sharing.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Partner with Accounting, Payroll, Sales, Operations, and external consultants to ensure accurate tax reporting.
- Provide technical tax guidance and training to internal stakeholders as needed.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning activities.
- Lead special tax-related projects and perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, education, experience, and abilities required to perform this role successfully.
Education & Experience
- Five (5) to eight (8) years of progressive tax experience in public accounting and/or corporate tax.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Taxation preferred.
- CPA preferred
- Experience with multi-state tax compliance and reporting required.
- Experience in consumer-packaged goods (CPG) or regulated industries preferred.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as they relate to income taxes.
- Must have experience working with a high sense of urgency in a team environment or independently

- Familiarity with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and work management systems such as Slack, Jira, or similar platforms.
- Ability to travel occasionally between Company buildings or work sites, as needed.
Certifications & Compliance
- Must be at least 21 years of age, as required by applicable state regulations.
- Must successfully complete a pre-employment background check, where permitted by law.
- Must obtain and maintain all licenses, permits, certifications, or registrations required by applicable federal, state, provincial, or local laws and regulations.
- ServSafe Certification or Food Handler's Card is preferred, where applicable.

- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.
