Accountabilities

  • Lead and own the Mexico Tax function, ensuring robust compliance while continuously strengthening tax strategy, governance and risk management in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment.
  • Ensure close collaboration and engagement with local country Business and Finance organization as well as regional and global Group Tax function including Transfer Pricing and Tax Reporting operations, maintaining a highly compliant culture through continuous improvement and engagement with internal & external stakeholders.
  • Monitor and manage the profit level of Mexican SYNGENTA entities in cooperation with global Transfer Pricing team.
  • Drive the implementation of global tax strategy and risk management frameworks in Mexico, adapting them to local business realities and identifying opportunities for enhancement.
  • Support Head of Tax in special corporate projects like M&A, APA filings, divestments, capital injections, dividend distribution, etc.
  • Represent Group Tax in leadership meetings, risk committees and other senior management forums.
  • Monitor external regulatory and internal business developments and initiatives to ensure tax compliance and mitigate tax risks for the Group.
  • Support tax audits / litigations and actively contribute to the building/maintenance of strong and positive relationships with local tax authorities and external advisors.
  • Build, lead and develop a fit-for-purpose Mexican tax team, thriving to provide value and advice to the business while keeping high level of regulatory tax compliance.

Qualifications

Required

  • Expert knowledge in Mexican tax system ideally gained in one of the Big4s, combined with inhouse experience in a multinational company.
  • Strong finance, statutory accounting and tax reporting knowledge; and understanding of underlying operational processes, system and data requirements.
  • Experience in Agri business sector would be a differentiator.
  • Fluent Spanish and English are a must.
  • Proven tax leader with the ability to shape, streghen and evolve the Mexico Tax function, building sustainable processes and developing high-performing teams.
  • SAP.
  • Tax reporting.

  • Leadership skills are essential for the position.
  • Comfortable to deal with stakeholders at different levels in the organization. Strong and effective communication in relation to key stakeholders, including senior managers at local, regional and global levels.
  • Can-do mindset to identify and solve problems.

Leadership & Impact

In addition to strong technical tax expertise, proven leadership capabilities are a critical requirement for this role. While reporting to the Head of Tax for Argentina & Mexico this position goes beyond technical execution and requires a leader with a strong track record of building, motivating, developing and leading high-performing teams, driving accountability, and setting clear priorities in a complex environment.

Equally important is the ability to effectively manage and influence stakeholders at multiple levels of the organization, building trusted relationships and partnering cross-functionally to support strategic business objectives.

Solid experience in people leadership and stakeholder management will be essential for success in this position.
