Job Description

The Tax Analyst supports Kirby’s transaction tax compliance activities by managing exemption certificates, preparing and filing sales and use tax returns, performing account reconciliations, supporting audits, and conducting tax research. This role works closely with branch operations, customers, and internal departments to resolve tax-related issues, ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations, and support ongoing process improvements. The position also assists with business licensing, property tax administration, and other special projects as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Sales and use tax exemption certificate processing including receipt, review, system update, and tax credit issuance when necessary.
  • Prepare work papers and monthly sales and use tax returns for state, county, city, and district filings.
  • Produce general ledger reports and reconciliations. Issue integrity reports to be reconciled with branch operation departments.
  • Work on a wide variety of transaction tax matters including audits, research, branch related issues, software implementation, and other special projects.
  • Review and approve all incoming exemption certificates, ensuring they are complete, correct and appropriate
  • Assist the business license group as needed
  • Assist the property tax team with logging incoming bills, requesting checks, and mailouts
  • Manage customer requests of W9’s and questions related to taxability

Qualifications

  • Qualifications Knowledge & Skill:

  • Experienced in the MS Office suite.

Education:

  • BA/BS Degree in Finance, Taxation, Accounting or other related field, required.

Experience:

  • 2+ years of related experience in the manufacturing industry, preferred
  • Prior sales tax accounting experience required.
  • Knowledge of sales tax laws and return filing process for various jurisdictions required.

Physical Activities & Requirements: Standard Office Criteria

Working Conditions: Standard Office Criteria. Typical work hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday - Friday.
