TotalEnergies has developed a strong expertise in oil and biofuels, natural gas and electricity trading. Trading entities are based in Geneva, Paris, Houston and Singapore.

Today, thanks to an international openness, a political and economic stability and strong competences in the financing of commodity trading and shipping, Switzerland has a leading position in international commodity trade.

This is why TotalEnergies installed naturally its European trading hub across oil and biofuels, natural gas and electricity in Geneva, which now bring together very large teams around trading activities: Trading & Shipping (T&S) and TotalEnergies Gas and Power (TGP).

T&S is a trading company in charge of all physical trading and shipping of crude oil and refined products on behalf of the TotalEnergies Company. It has been an active participant all over the supply chain as well as on the derivatives paper market in order to manage the market risk for a long time). As such, it operates in fast-evolving market dynamics influenced by internal and external factors that require constant adaptation and evolution.

Activities

The position is located in Geneva, within the tax department dedicated to support the trading activities. The role focus on gas and power topics and include to work closely with the rest of the team. You will directly report to the indirect tax manager, based in Geneva.

Member of a dynamic team, you will collaborate with a wide variety of contacts (other departments within the company, tax advisors and law firms in different regions worldwide, counterparties, customs and tax authorities) on various topics. Trading activity is a fast and an evolving activity in a dynamical and complex environment. For this reason, the Tax department needs to deeply understand the activity and react instantaneously.

What you will do:

• Analysis of customs and VAT legislation where trading operates (mainly Europe, Middle East, Africa). Advise accordingly operations, trading and legal departments.
• Review commercials contracts from taxes perspective.
• Answer question received from customs and fiscal authorities in case of an audit.
• Prepare and present internal training to newcomers on customs and tax questions.
• Participate to customs and tax arrangements where the trading perform activities (analysis with local advisors, arrangements, formalities,….)
• Participate to presentations, seminars et trainings organized by customs and tax advisers to anticipate new customs and fiscal questions.
• Elaborate constant IT improvements within our system to ensure the VAT compliance of our activities.
• Assist and answer preliminary direct taxes questions.
• Prepare VAT returns in various countries where the company is registered.
• Review of invoices from VAT perspective.

Candidate Profile

• Relevant Master degree, or equivalent, in law, business or economy
• A proven experience in international tax and VAT, of at least 3 years
• English required/ French an advantage
• Sound interest in IT development is a plus
• Ability to quickly facilitate contact with internal (operations, trading, contracts, legal, accounting treasury….) and external (advisers, competitors, clients, internal Customs/Tax advisors of the Group Total)
• Flexible, working independently as well as in a team environment.
• Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and remain responsive to internal/external inquiries.
