Tailings Engineer

Full Time Position

Join one of the world’s leading lithium operations and play a key role in the safe, efficient and environmentally responsible management of Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs) and water, dams at the Greenbushes Lithium Operation.

About the Role

This position is responsible for supporting the tailings and water dam teams to ensure the safe and efficient design, operation and monitoring of TSFs and water dams. You will work closely with operational, environmental and infrastructure teams to deliver cost-effective and compliant engineering outcomes while maintaining the highest standards of safety and environmental stewardship.

You will also assist with broader infrastructure and site activities as directed by leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• support the Superintendent TSF & Water, Dams Engineering (RTFE) and Manager Infrastructure Site Services in daily operations and project delivery;
• assist TSF Operations and Construction Superintendents as required;
• ensure safe and efficient operation of TSFs and water dams through ongoing technical support and guidance;
• monitor infrastructure performance and assist with maintenance and safety improvement initiatives;
• maintain and update the Tailings Development Plan and long-term project plans;
• maintain and update the site water balance model;
• facilitate fortnightly site water meetings when required;
• assist with investigations relating to TSF and water dams safety incidents;
• monitor activities to ensure compliance with statutory and company standards;
• assist with technical reviews of audits, monitoring, design and tender documentation;
• coordinate and oversee contractor investigations, monitoring and construction activities;
• ensure appropriate safety and hazard controls are implemented before works commence;
• review and authorise consultant and contractor claims; and
• participate in contractor performance and safety reviews.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate strong technical capability, excellent organisational skills and a commitment to operational safety and environmental compliance.

Qualifications

• Desirable qualifications include;
• Degree in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical) or equivalent engineering qualification; and
• Certificate IV in Frontline Management or similar supervisory qualification.

Skills & Experience

• minimum 10 years’ relevant industry experience;
• demonstrated experience in the design, construction and operation of TSFs and water dams;
• strong understanding of tailings storage facilities, water dams and associated regulations;
• excellent analytical and technical problem-solving skills;
• strong communication and interpersonal skills;
• experience working with document control systems and compliance processes;
• excellent time management and prioritisation skills; and
• high attention to detail and professional presentation.

Competencies

The incumbent should have the following competencies:

proficient in Microsoft Office suite, MS Project and AutoCAD;

• proficient with document control systems;
• very good understanding of tailings and water dams geotechnical engineering;
• very good English communication skills, particularly written communication; and
• current ‘C’ class or higher Drivers Licence.
