The Lighting Designer is responsible for researching and developing a complete lighting design for department student productions within a predetermined budget. Working collaboratively with the Director, Stage Manager, and Scenic Designer, the designer ensures the lighting vision supports the overall production aesthetic while adhering to all deadlines.

The designer drafts a full light plot using CAD software (VectorWorks, AutoDesk, or equivalent), develops a cue script prior to tech rehearsal, and prepares all associated paperwork including instrument schedules, channel hook-ups, focus charts, and magic sheets (LightWright format preferred). The designer assists with hang and focus, coordinates gel and gobo pulls and orders, and manages light rental requests as needed. Video design support may also be required on a per-production basis.

Duties/Responsibilities:

(100%)

• Research and develop lighting design for production according to predetermined budget
• Draft light plot (in Vector Works, Auto Desk or other CAD program able to export into PDF) by pre-determined production dates
• Meet with Director, stage manager to develop cue script before tech rehearsal; work with scenic designer to meet production needs adhering to production deadlines
• Assist in hang and create focus charts for master electricians to use
• Complete instrument schedule/channel hook-up/magic sheet or additional paperwork (LightWright format is preferred)
• Meeting deadlines for videotaping/light run; light rental request (if needed); light plot (Gel/Gobo list, pulled and ordered)
• Video design, as needed, per production

Requirements:

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

• Must be experienced in academic theatre production setting

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Must have necessary lighting experience in specific software systems

Compensation Pay Range:

$45 /hour
