Program Summary

The U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) sustains the Army’s mission to develop, acquire, field, and sustain ground combat, tactical, and support systems throughout their lifecycle. The program focuses on ensuring operational readiness, reliability, and safety of automotive and ground support equipment critical to Army operations.

Under this contract, personnel provide maintenance, repair, overhaul, and sustainment support in accordance with Army technical manuals, safety standards, and performance requirements.

Job Summary

The Welder performs fabrication, repair, and modification of metal components and structures in support of TACOM maintenance and sustainment operations. The role applies welding techniques to restore or enhance equipment and structural integrity in accordance with technical specifications and quality standards.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Welds metal components together to fabricate or repair products, such as machine parts, plant equipment, mobile homes, motors and generators, according to layouts, blueprints or work orders, using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment.
  • This worker welds metal parts together, using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes, performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding, repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes and increases size of metal parts, positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
  • This worker may locate and repair cracks in industrial engine cylinder heads, using inspection equipment and gas torch, may perform repairs only and be required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards of governmental agencies or professional and technical associations.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; supplemental technical or vocational training preferred
  • Typically 3-5 years of experience in welding, fabrication, or metal repair in an industrial, maintenance, or military environment
  • Must be certified in MIG, stick and pipe welding.
  • Must have knowledge of the use of both acetylene and electrical welding equipment, welding standards and trade procedures, processes and techniques.
  • Must have the ability to read and follow schematics, blueprints and other specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality work
  • Ability to perform work in physically demanding environments
  • Ability to obtain or maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (as required)
  • U.S. citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting DoD, Army, or TACOM programs
  • Certification in welding (e.g., AWS Certified Welder)
  • Experience working on military vehicles, equipment, or structural components
  • Knowledge of metallurgy, structural repair standards, and fabrication best practices
  • Experience supporting government inspections, audits, and compliance programs
  • Prior government contracting experience

The salary range for this position is $54,500 - $81,800. Compensation offered will depend on qualifications, experience, work location, and business considerations. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. Additional compensation and benefits may be available based on role eligibility.

Additional Information

This position will be a part of a physical work environment that requires standing, walking, and lifting. There is potential exposure to machinery, tools, fuels, oils, and outdoor conditions. Employees may also be required to work shifts, overtime, or weekend support based on mission needs.
