Program Summary

The U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) sustains the Army’s mission to develop, acquire, field, and sustain ground combat, tactical, and support systems throughout their lifecycle. The program focuses on ensuring operational readiness, reliability, and safety of automotive and ground support equipment critical to Army operations.

Under this contract, personnel provide maintenance, repair, overhaul, and sustainment support in accordance with Army technical manuals, safety standards, and performance requirements.

Job Summary

The Sandblaster / Painter performs surface preparation, abrasive blasting, and coating application on vehicles, equipment, and components. This role ensures surfaces are properly cleaned, prepared, and coated to meet durability, corrosion protection, and appearance standards. Responsibilities will include removing rust, old paint, scale, and contaminants from metal surfaces as well as applying primers and paint using spray equipment, brushes, or rollers.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Operates walnut, hull, sand, shot blast or other abrasive blasting equipment in booth to remove rust, scale, paint, corrosion and other foreign substances from combat and tactical vehicles, artillery, depot operating equipment and their disassembled parts, units, assemblies, and subassemblies.
  • Sets up, prepares, operates, regulates and maintains complete stationary sandblasting equipment.
  • Fills machines with correct abrasive and regulates controls to adjust flow of abrasive and air to obtain desired cutting speed.
  • Must know cutting speeds of different types and grades of abrasives with various sizes and shapes of nozzles and amount of air pressure.
  • Checks items to determine that they are properly prepared for cleaning.
  • Masks glass and machined surfaces and openings to prevent damage during abrasive operation.
  • Performs first echelon maintenance to equipment operated, such as replacing worn hoses, nozzles, valves, unstopping clogged mixing chambers, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience in operating walnut, hull, sand, shot blast or other abrasive blasting equipment.
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
  • Ability to obtain or maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (as required)
  • U.S. citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting DoD, Army, or TACOM programs
  • Experience painting tactical vehicles or military equipment
  • Knowledge of corrosion control and protective coating systems
  • Certification or training in industrial painting or coating applications
  • Familiarity with environmental and hazardous material handling requirements
  • Prior government contracting experience

Additional Information

This position will be a part of a physical work environment that requires standing, walking, and lifting. There is potential exposure to machinery, tools, fuels, oils, and outdoor conditions. Employees may also be required to work shifts, overtime, or weekend support based on mission needs.
