Program Summary

The U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) sustains the Army’s mission to develop, acquire, field, and sustain ground combat, tactical, and support systems throughout their lifecycle. The program focuses on ensuring operational readiness, reliability, and safety of automotive and ground support equipment critical to Army operations.

Under this contract, personnel provide maintenance, repair, overhaul, and sustainment support in accordance with Army technical manuals, safety standards, and performance requirements.

Job Summary

The Motor Vehicle Mechanic Helper provides direct labor support to senior mechanics in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of military and commercial vehicles as part of critical TACOM operations. This role assists in maintaining fleet readiness by supporting preventative maintenance and repair activities in accordance with established technical standards, safety requirements, and performance metrics.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist Motor Vehicle Mechanics in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing wheeled vehicles, tactical platforms, and support equipment
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, battery servicing, and tire maintenance
  • Support removal, replacement, and installation of mechanical components such as brakes, belts, hoses, and related systems
  • Clean, service, and prepare parts and components for inspection, repair, or installation
  • Operate basic hand tools and shop equipment under direct supervision
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and workspaces in a clean, organized, and safe condition
  • Assist with vehicle inspections to identify mechanical deficiencies and safety concerns
  • Move, stage, and position vehicles and equipment as required to support shop operations
  • Adhere to all applicable safety, environmental, and quality standards in accordance with TACOM and company procedures
  • Maintain accountability of assigned tools, parts, and materials
  • Support maintenance documentation, work orders, and reporting requirements as directed

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; supplemental technical or vocational training preferred
  • Typically 1-2 years of basic mechanical aptitude with an interest in automotive or equipment maintenance
  • Ability to follow technical instructions and work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to perform work in physically demanding environments
  • Ability to obtain or maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (as required)
  • U.S. citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting DoD, Army, or TACOM programs
  • Previous experience in automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment maintenance
  • Vocational or technical training in automotive repair or a related field
  • Knowledge of tool control procedures and maintenance documentation systems
  • Prior government contracting experience

Additional Information

This position will be a part of a physical work environment that requires standing, walking, and lifting. There is potential exposure to machinery, tools, fuels, oils, and outdoor conditions. Employees may also be required to work shifts, overtime, or weekend support based on mission needs.
