The Systems Test Engineer IV is responsible for the testing and validation of new embedded microprocessor based electronic control designs and the support of contract manufacturers building controls for Rheem HVAC and water heating products including test requirements, test fixture design, component qualification, and life cycle support. Will work to improve DFM and DFT of controls within Rheem. This is a key position on the electronic controls team within Rheem’s Advanced Technology Integration organization, providing advanced technologies and systems solutions for Rheem’s Water Heating, Air Conditioning, Friedrich, Eemax, Raypak and HTPG business units.
This position will serve our Enterprise Division, located in Ft. Smith, AR (Onsite)
Setup, adjust, and change test samples and build setups for testing, perform the required testing in accordance with engineering specifications or defined test practices.
Lead and coordinate test plan activities with lab personnel and coordinate equipment resources with lab management.
Accurately acquire, interpret, process, and format test data and results and make any computations required to complete test data within the scope of the requirements of the applicable test standard.
Investigate and troubleshoot product design related problems and opportunities, documenting findings and recommend corrective/improvement changes.
Develop specialized test plans and coordinate with designers and lab personnel on test set-up, data acquisition, interpretation of data, and means for achieving desired test results.
Write technical reports covering test conditions, procedures, results, and conclusions.
Accurately acquire, interpret, process, and format test data results, conclusions drawn, and recommend design changes to achieve desired results.
Operate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair test equipment, instrumentation and systems in accordance with engineering specifications or defined test practices.
Demonstrate an understanding of how to operate computer systems for data acquisition, test result recording, project status reporting, and to document and manage test documentation records and reports.
Interpret 3D models and 2D production drawings.
Must be familiar with the use of hand tools.
Conduct on-the-job training as required.
Lead and or support within cross-functional teams.
Coordinate pre-production product activities with Plant personnel.
Develop specialized tests and written procedures to evaluate development and reliability specifications.
Determine standards methods applicable to a problem or test and devise special means of empirically testing the problem assigned.
Assist Team Leader with lab activities for large-scale design/lab projects.
Must demonstrate leadership qualities.
Consult with vendors on new or existing components.
Assist in the start-up of new products.
Review agency submittals and coordinate available testing.
Utilize LabVIEW or similar programming software to automate tests.
Evaluate test plans and coordinate with designers and lab personnel on test set-up, data acquisition, interpretation of data and means for achieving desired test results.
Bachelor's degree in a scientific or technical discipline (Engineering)
Minimum of 7 years’ experience with electronic analysis methodologies and associated instrumentation
Able to work successfully with multiple departments such as R&D, marketing, manufacturing, service engineering, suppliers, and customers
Demonstrate comprehensive working knowledge with plumbing, electrical concepts, and principles of gas combustion.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions and procedures.
Ability to work in a team environment (working with cross-functional teams)
Demonstrated working knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing software (Microsoft Outlook, Excel Word, PowerPoint, and Project) – will be tested.
Ability to work with intermediate mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
Strong communications skills (ability to speak before groups and/or employees).
Strong reasoning and analytical skills (ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations).
Strong coordination, time management, and organization skills.
Demonstrates the ability to complete certification submittal packages.
No overtime work or international travel restrictions
Technical knowledge of product design and failure analysis
Working knowledge of statistical methods and/or Design-of-Experiments (DOE)
Familiarity with practices of wireless engineering (i.e., circuits and systems, electronics, digital systems, electromagnetics, and communication systems)
Familiarity with multiple communications media and protocol such as wired, wireless, optic, CAN, BACnet, Modbus, TCP/IP.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Technology Engineering
Master’s Degree in a related technical field
Working knowledge of CSA/ANSI, UL, NOM, SASO water heater standards.
Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
Experience in appliance design or accelerated testing
