Systems Support Engineer

The position holder supports the UK R&D Systems Department activities, with a particular focus on system integration, product engineering, application know-how and product compliance.

The role is responsible for assisting with the preparation and maintenance of Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical drawings, and associated technical product documentation required for product development, compliance activities, and transfer to production.

Working closely with the Systems Lead and interdisciplinary development teams, the position contributes to engineering coordination, documentation management and development activities across the product lifecycle, supporting the efficient progression of products from development through to production.

About You

A self-motivated and confident Systems Support Engineer with a highly organized and detail-oriented working style. Possessing strong problem-solving skills and the ability to simplify complex technical issues, demonstrates excellent process discipline and adherence to standards. Bringing an analytical and methodical approach to technical work and problem-solving, complemented by a creative and innovative mindset. Experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment supporting product development or production activities, has a solid foundation in preparing and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical drawings, and engineering documentation. Familiarity with Atlassian tools such as Jira and Confluence, as well as experience with ERP systems like Sage200. Have a basic understanding of regulatory compliance and experience with engineering change processes and controlled document management systems.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Support prototype builds and development activities, including components sourcing, coordination with procurement and assisting with design validation and testing.
  • Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical, mechanical and cable drawings, and related engineering documentation for development and production products.
  • Support the controlled transfer of product designs and engineering updates from development into production, including preparation of assembly and test documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of technical construction files (TCF) and related documentation required for regulatory testing, product approvals and compliance activities (e.g. CE, UKCA, RCM, UL)
  • Contribute to systems integration and hardware development activities through technical coordination and application-related tasks.
  • Assist in the evaluation and integration of new components, technologies and third-party equipment used within development projects.
  • Perform first-level triage of product issues and quality observations, ensuring appropriate investigation and follow-up actions are assigned to the relevant engineering teams, production or suppliers.
  • Maintain clear documentation of engineering activities, technical issues and implemented solutions to support internal knowledge sharing.
  • Support general activities within the R&D Systems Department as required.

Desired skills and experience:

  • Bachelor: Specialisation: Engineering (Systems, Mechanical, Electrical or similar) - Alternative qualification: Relevant practical engineering experience in a development and production environment.
  • Engineering documentation control
  • BOM & part structure management
  • Familiarity with Atlassian tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Basic understanding of regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Sage200.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment supporting product development or production activities.
  • 1-3 years practical experience in preparation and maintenance of Bills of Materials (BOMS), technical drawings and engineering documentation.
  • Experience with engineering change processes and controlled document management systems.
  • Intercultural competence and communication skills within an international environment. This includes the ability to work effectively with multinational teams and international partners, supported by previous experience collaborating across countries and regions. European region preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (mechanical, electrical, cable)
  • Understanding of product structures, Bill of Materials (BOMs) and part number systems
  • Basic knowledge of electronic and electromechanical systems
  • Ability to read electronics schematics and recognise common components to support engineering documentation, quality topics and troubleshooting activities.
  • Understanding of product development lifecycles from concept through to production release.
  • Awareness of engineering change control processes and revision management.
  • Basic understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements applicable to electronic products.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing and assembly processes.
