Job Description
We are looking for a talented Systems Reliability Engineering Technical Specialist to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Distribution Business Unit for our Solwezi Mines Site, in Kitwe, Zambia.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways
- Lead critical reliability activities throughout new product development, ensuring products meet customer expectations and business reliability targets before launch.
- Identify, prevent, and resolve potential product failures by applying reliability engineering tools and proven risk assessment methodologies.
- Drive data-based decision-making through quantitative reliability analysis, failure reporting, corrective action systems, and reliability performance tracking.
- Collaborate and negotiate with cross-functional technical and core project teams to deliver key reliability milestones and support successful product development outcomes.
- Take ownership of complex components, systems, or projects, providing independent leadership and accountability in environments with ambiguity and evolving requirements.
- Enhance and standardize reliability processes, tools, and methods, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen product quality and organizational effectiveness.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers, technicians, and student employees, supporting knowledge transfer and capability development across the team.
- Influence technical direction as a recognized reliability specialist, helping project teams proactively manage product risks and deliver more dependable, high-performing solutions.
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Strong reliability engineering expertise with at least 10 (ten) years of experience, including Power BIA knowledge, reliability risk management, and supporting new product development programs from concept through launch.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to perform quantitative reliability analysis, interpret failure data, develop reliability models, and make data-driven recommendations that reduce product risk.
- Experience in reliability testing and validation, including developing reliability test plans, accelerated testing strategies, and evaluating results to identify unknown failure modes and improve product durability.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional reliability activities, including Failure Mode Avoidance (FMA), failure reporting and corrective action processes (FRACAS), stakeholder collaboration, and influencing teams to drive reliability improvements and successful product launches.
Education/ Experience
- College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
- Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
- Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred.
