The Work You Will Do:

The incumbent in this position is responsible for maintaining the network and telecommunications infrastructure environments. This position is responsible for the modification, monitoring and deployment of current and new network infrastructure equipment and related applications which may include routers, switches, wireless access points, console managers, UPS, PDU, load balancer, firewalls, VPN concentrators, NPM software, VoIP phones and others. This position is responsible for the day-to-day deployment, management, and troubleshooting of applications, servers, and various network devices.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Deploys, configures, and maintains new network equipment, appliances (physical and/or virtual), and related applications based on agency's needs. Performs maintenance of existing equipment, to include firmware and system upgrades and/or deployment of security patches. Maintains network closets and datacenter presence in a clean and organized manner. Performs site visits as necessary.
  • Monitors agency’s network health and responds and resolves outages -to include remote connections. Reports outages or performance degradation of network and/or related equipment to manager. Maintains observability of connectivity to Service Provider(s). Assists in research and resolution of network issues as directed. Documents network maintenance procedures and records any changes. Perform config backups as needed.
  • Enforces network security through the implementation of best practices and the guidance of the supervisor. Partners with the Information Security Team when needed. Creates and modifies any necessary ACLs, firewall rules, policies, and access control measures per given directive. Implements rules and tools that ensures separation of sensitive data as it travels the network (internally and/or externally).
  • Supports assigned IT projects from inception to full completion. Performs research as needed and develops efficient plan(s) that help accomplish the desired goal(s). Utilizes proper time management and project follow-through. Conducts research and development as directed by Infrastructure managers to promote more efficient tools and processes. Implements technology changes as directed.
  • Provides Tier 3 IT Infrastructure Support through the agency’s ticketing system. Provides On-Call support on a rotating schedule.
  • Supports the back end of the agency's Phone System and all networking and VoIP related functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge of routing and switching configuration, firewalls, load balancers, access points, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, SMB, NPM, Cisco iOS, Juniper and other network systems and applications.
  • Ability to install, manage and deploy new LAN, WAN, Wireless, VPN and VoIP networks, as well as PDUs, UPSs, and other network devices.
  • Ability to conduct research and identify essential information, and to collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop recommendations and solve problems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot network connectivity issues and outages.

Minimum Requirements

  • Working experience with network switches, routers, wireless access points and other network equipment; and
  • Working experience with telecommunications and collaboration systems; and
  • At least three (3) years of working experience in the IT field; and
  • Must be able to meet the requirements of Florida Statutes, Ch. 60L-32.0012 (2)(b) regarding On-Call status.

Preferred Requirements

  • An active network related certification (i.e., CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, Juniper, Aruba, Meraki, etc.).
  • Strong working knowledge of routing and switching configuration, firewalls, load balancers, access points, BGP, OSPF, VLAN, VXLAN, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, SMB, Cisco iOS, Juniper and other network systems and applications.
