Job Description

Determined, imaginative, curious—if these are some of the ways you describe yourself, we want to learn more about you!

At TC Energy, we are proud to connect the world to the energy it needs. Guided by our values of safety in every step, personal accountability, one team and active learning, we deliver the critical energy that North America and the world rely on while balancing reliability, affordability and sustainability.

The Opportunity

TC Energy is seeking a Systems Optimization Engineer to join the Canada Gas Control Systems Optimization team. This role focuses on improving operational decision-making across the Canada Gas footprint through analytics, digital enablement, applied systems thinking, and risk-informed optimization.

This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of operational optimization across TC Energy's Canada Gas business. You'll work at the intersection of pipeline system and compressor station operations, engineering, analytics, and technology, solving complex problems and delivering solutions that have a direct impact on how one of North America's largest natural gas systems operates.

Working closely with Gas Control, Commercial Operations, Automation, SCADA, Information Services, Engineering, and Field Operations, you will identify opportunities to improve system performance and reliability, develop and implement tools and analytical capabilities, and support the Optimization Console in making more informed and effective operational decisions to optimize our pipeline system. The role will also lead the identification, management, and mitigation of risks arising from optimization initiatives and operational assessments.

Within the first 12 to 18 months, the successful candidate will build strong partnerships across Gas Control, Commercial Operations, Automation, SCADA, Information Services, and Engineering while developing a strategic roadmap for Systems Optimization enablement. They will advance multiple optimization initiatives from assessment through pilot testing and implementation, delivering proof-of-concept solutions that provide measurable operational value and contribute to improvements in fuel consumption, compressor efficiency, throughput, operating cost avoidance, and decision consistency. Success will also be demonstrated through the implementation of a structured approach to managing optimization-related risks.

We're looking for candidates with a proven track record of developing analytics platforms, decision-support tools, and optimization models that have generated measurable business value and operational improvements. Experience leading cross-functional initiatives from concept through implementation, while building strong stakeholder alignment and driving enterprise-wide adoption, is highly valued.

What You'll Do

  • Develop a deep understanding of Canada Gas pipeline and facility operations, optimization workflows, available data sources, and decision-support tools
  • Build relationships across stakeholder groups to identify, prioritize, and advance optimization opportunities
  • Develop roadmaps and recommendations that improve the capabilities of the Systems Optimization team and Optimization Console
  • Design and develop dashboards, analytical models, proof-of-concept applications, and other digital solutions using available analytics and citizen-development platforms
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to existing tools, systems, and processes, including opportunities requiring partnership with Information Services or other technical teams
  • Apply risk-based decision making to support operational issue management and optimization initiatives
  • Lead the documentation, assessment, tracking, mitigation, and close-out of risks identified through Optimization Console activities
  • Support active learning through event and incident reviews, root cause analysis, and developing and implementing improvement recommendations and actions
  • Support pilot testing, validation, adoption, and measurement of optimization solutions
  • Measure and communicate business value through improvements in system efficiency, reliability, operational consistency, throughput, cost avoidance, and decision quality
  • Analyze equipment and system performance trends to improve throughput, efficiency, reliability, and asset health
  • Monitor operational data streams to identify emerging risks, abnormal conditions, and optimization opportunities before they impact customers or system performance
  • Develop predictive indicators and early warning tools to improve operational awareness and decision quality

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Registered, or eligible to register, with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good-standing
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in Engineering

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing analytical tools, dashboards, applications, or digital solutions within a complex industrial, operational, or engineering environment
  • Experience with Power BI, Power Apps, or similar analytics and low-code development platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate across multiple business functions
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and systems-thinking capabilities
  • Degree specialization in Electrical, Software, or Process Engineering
  • Experience in gas transmission, pipeline operations, process control, automation, energy systems, or other complex operational environments
  • Experience with SQL, Python, data modeling, SCADA data, SEEQ, or similar industrial analytics platforms
  • Experience developing business cases, operational analytics, optimization models, or decision-support tools
  • Experience leading cross-functional improvement initiatives from concept through implementation

This position requires candidates to:

  • Occasional travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training
  • Successfully complete pre-employment medical screening including drug and alcohol testing
