Job Description

The Systems Manager, Data Operations, Enterprise Data & Analytics, leads the architecture, quality and integration backbone for data to the Enterprise Data & Analytics Platform (EDAP). This role manages a group that owns data models and governance standards across the EDAP stack (with a primary focus on the Google Cloud Platform; other platforms are Azure Databricks and C3.ai); provides data quality monitoring, rule definition, and root cause analysis in partnership with the data governance office; designs and builds the pipelines and data contracts that connect the EDAP landing zone to source systems and middleware. The Systems Manager is tasked to make these three functions operate as one coordinated practice, setting priorities, resolving cross-pillar dependencies, and ensuring the EDAP platforms deliver trusted, well-modeled, and reliably integrated data to our business partners and their value driven use cases with a focus on prioritizing data as an asset.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on depth in modern data platforms, including data modeling, data quality frameworks, and integration patterns across cloud and on-prem source systems. A track record of leading technical teams, partnering with solution engineering and enterprise governance groups, and translating platform standards into day-to-day operating discipline is essential. Strong communication skills matter as well, since the role works across architects, engineers, source system owners, and business stakeholders. Experience in utilities or other regulated industries is a plus. Candidates who can connect architecture, quality, and activation into a single operating model and lead a team to run it well are encouraged to apply.

This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Data Operations team, aligned across the three platform pillars of data architecture, data quality and data activation, setting priorities and managing day-to-day execution
  • Oversee the integrity of EDAP data models and architecture (primarily on Google Cloud Platform; other platforms are Azure Databricks & C3.ai), ensuring changes are evaluated, governed, and implemented in partnership with solution and platform engineering teams
  • Establish and enforce platform data governance standards covering naming conventions, data classification, documentation, access controls, and security and compliance requirements
  • Direct the platform's data quality program, including monitoring, rule definition, profiling methodologies, issue management, and root cause analysis
  • Ensure platform data quality practices stay aligned with the data governance office and quality standards as both the platform and enterprise policies evolve
  • Oversee the design and delivery of data integration pipelines and data contracts between EDAP and source systems, middleware, and downstream consumers
  • Ensure interface designs account for data sensitivity, integration methodology selection, and end-to-end data integrity across all activation work
  • Implement monitoring and observability standards for data interfaces so issues are detected early and data arrives intact and complete
  • Partner with solution engineering, source system owners, business subject matter experts, and enterprise governance teams to align platform capabilities with business use cases
  • Define and report on operational metrics, SLAs, and KPIs for architecture, quality, and integration, driving continuous improvement across the platform

  • Experience implementing data governance standards, data contracts, and observability practices on an enterprise analytics platform with integration points back to governance platforms such as Google Dataplex / Knowledge Catalog and Microsoft Purview, preferred
  • Background in utilities, energy, or other regulated industries with exposure to compliance and data sensitivity requirements, preferred
  • Hands-on experience with modern cloud data platforms (such as Azure, AWS, GCP, and/or Databricks) and the integration tooling that supports them, preferred

Leading the industry to power tomorrow is our other focus- we are committed to aggressively transitioning away from fossil fuels to a net-zero economy by 2050. To help achieve this we collaborate with customers, regulators, policymakers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure our clean energy future is informed by principles of affordability, equity, and environmental justice. We’re also heavily investing in new technologies and the infrastructure that can get us there.

What are a few things we have achieved so far?

• Since 2009, our energy efficiency programs have prevented 11 million metric tons of carbon emissions – the same amount it would take to power 1.4 million homes for a year

• Recently, we’ve embarked on an 8-year project to make our systems more resilient in the face of extreme weather events
