You will be the System Safety Engineer for the Hardware Engineering team at Lockheed Martin  Missiles and Fire Control (MFC). Our team delivers precision engagement aerospace and defense systems, designing, building and fielding the electrical hardware that powers missiles, sensors and other mission critical subsystems for the United States and allied militaries.

What You Will Be Doing

As the System Safety Engineer, you will lead safety‑analysis efforts across the entire product line and its subsystems. You will partner with systems, software, and training engineers to embed safety into architecture, use‑cases, and software designs. You will also mentor junior engineers, guiding them in the System Safety discipline while working independently with minimal oversight. Your responsibilities will include:

• Conducting hazard analyses and safety assessments in full compliance with MIL‑STD‑882 and contractual requirements.
• Developing and maintaining safety documentation, reports, and deliverables for customers and government stakeholders.
• Recommending safety‑focused design features, controls, training, and procedures that eliminate or mitigate identified hazards.
• Performing software safety analyses, creating safety cases, and supporting verification & validation activities.
• Collaborating with systems and software engineering to define safe architectures, use‑cases, and operational concepts.
• Providing technical guidance and mentorship to early‑career System Safety Engineers.
• Acting as a subject‑matter expert during design reviews, risk assessments, and customer briefings.
• Continuously monitoring emerging safety standards and best practices to keep the team at the forefront of safety engineering.

MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN - This position is located at a facility that requires special access. The selected candidate must be able to obtain a secret clearance.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in an engineering discipline
• Experience developing and implementing a System Safety Program IAW MIL-STD-882
• Developing and evaluating system safety requirements
• Familiarity with implementing a Software Safety Program IAW AOP-52 and DoD guidelines
• Proficient knowledge of MIL-STD-882 and its associated analyses
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to make formal presentations to large groups
• Interacts well in a team atmosphere with engineers, suppliers, program managers and customers
• Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance

Desired Skills

• Experience supporting independent government Safety Review Boards
• Knowledge of Human Factors Engineering
• Familiarity with missile and launcher systems
• Secret clearance with current 6-year background check
• Model-based engineering knowledge
• Experience with DOORS requirements application
• Candidate should be a self-starter capable of performing tasks with little direction
• Effective analytical problem solving skills, the ability to perform detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy
• Able to learn and work with System Safety specific software tools

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $104900.00 - $194700.00

• Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.
• For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
