Job Description
Standard Job Description
Space Sustainment and Services (S3) is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support the design, development, integration, and deployment of IBM Maximo Application Suite solutions in complex asset sustainment environments. The successful candidate will work directly with customers, maintainers, engineers, logisticians, planners, and technical teams to understand operational and sustainment needs and translate those needs into effective system requirements and functional solutions. This position applies systems engineering principles throughout the solution lifecycle, including concept development, requirements definition, functional analysis, system design, integration, testing, implementation, operation, and continuous improvement. The Systems Engineer will support the logical and systematic conversion of customer requirements into total system solutions that account for technical, schedule, cost, supportability, and operational constraints. The position will primarily support IBM Maximo Application Suite, with emphasis on Asset Configuration Manager (ACM), Maximo Aviation, and capabilities supporting highly configured, serialized, mission-critical assets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform technical planning and functional systems engineering for complex asset sustainment solutions.
- Lead customer discovery, requirements workshops, process reviews, and functional-design activities.
- Elicit, analyze, document, decompose, and manage customer and system requirements.
- Translate operational needs and business processes into functional, software, data, and interface requirements.
- Perform functional analysis, requirements allocation, interface definition, and solution analysis.
- Develop systems-engineering artifacts including concepts of operation, use cases, process flows, functional architectures, requirements, interface definitions, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Analyze current-state sustainment processes and define future-state processes enabled by Maximo.
- Define solutions supporting configuration-managed assets, serialized components, allowable and actual configurations, applicability, maintenance requirements, inspections, and configuration history.
- Evaluate requirements against standard Maximo capabilities and identify needs for configuration, integration, process change, or custom development.
- Collaborate with developers, architects, technical leads, data teams, and integration teams to develop implementable solutions.
- Define and analyze interfaces between Maximo and engineering, logistics, maintenance, supply, technical-data, financial, and other systems.
- Support design reviews, trade studies, prototypes, demonstrations, testing, verification and validation, user acceptance testing, deployment, training, and operational transition.
- Support modernization, migration, and replacement of legacy maintenance and sustainment systems.
- Identify functional, technical, schedule, implementation, and operational risks and support mitigation planning.
Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. For positions that perform IT responsibilities, use E646, Systems Engr-IT.
Basic Qualifications
- Demonstrated functional experience with IBM Maximo in a complex asset sustainment environment.
- Experience performing systems engineering, functional systems analysis, requirements engineering, or solution design for software-enabled systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work directly with customers and subject-matter experts to elicit, analyze, document, and translate operational needs into clear and verifiable system requirements.
- Strong understanding of complex asset sustainment, maintenance, configuration management, or maintenance-repair-overhaul processes, with the ability to translate those processes into system functionality.
- Must be a US Citizen.
Desired Skills
- Experience with IBM Maximo Asset Configuration Manager (ACM), Maximo Aviation, or comparable configuration-managed asset functionality.
- Experience supporting Department of War, federal government, aerospace, aviation, or other mission-critical programs.
- Experience supporting complex, serialized, or configuration-managed assets such as aircraft, spacecraft, weapon systems, missiles, ships, ground support equipment, or test equipment.
- Experience performing functional analysis, requirements decomposition and allocation, interface definition, trade studies, and verification and validation activities.
- Experience developing systems-engineering artifacts such as CONOPS, use cases, functional architectures, process flows, interface definitions, requirements specifications, and verification criteria.
