WOOD Federal Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer Level 6 (MBSE / Reverse Engineering) to provide senior-level systems engineering support within a complex, mission-focused technical environment.
The selected candidate will serve as a Subject Matter Expert supporting reverse engineering, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), technical analysis, and the development of engineering artifacts used to understand, assess, and improve existing systems and capabilities. The role requires strong systems thinking, advanced technical judgment, and the ability to work independently across complex engineering challenges.
The successful candidate will analyze existing systems, interfaces, architectures, and technical behaviors to support reverse-engineering efforts and the development of accurate system representations. The role will include working with MBSE methodologies and modeling tools such as Cameo to document system structure, behavior, relationships, and dependencies, while supporting broader systems engineering and transformation activities.
This position is well suited for a senior systems engineer with experience in MBSE, reverse engineering, systems analysis, Cameo, and Agile/SAFe environments. Experience applying AI-enabled or AI-informed approaches to engineering analysis, model development, or technical problem-solving is highly desirable as the customer continues to explore advanced methods for accelerating engineering and transformation activities.
The candidate should be comfortable engaging with technical teams, product stakeholders, and customer leadership while producing high-quality engineering work products and helping translate complex technical information into clear, actionable insight.
Security Clearance Requirements:
This position requires all candidates to be U.S. Citizens and possess an active TS/SCI Security Clearance with a Polygraph.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in one or more ISO/IEC 15288 process areas.
- Analyze current business, engineering, and program processes to identify inefficiencies, gaps, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and recommend improved processes, workflows, procedures, and operating practices.
- Apply Agile, SAFe, Lean Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies to enterprise and program-level challenges.
- Facilitate workshops, working sessions, retrospectives, process reviews, and improvement activities with stakeholders at multiple organizational levels.
- Support teams in implementing and maturing Agile and SAFe practices.
- Develop process maps, workflows, metrics, dashboards, and related process-management artifacts.
- Use JIRA and Confluence to support workflow management, issue tracking, process documentation, reporting, and collaboration.
- Assess organizational and process performance using quantitative and qualitative measures.
- Identify root causes of performance issues and recommend corrective or preventive actions.
- Develop and deliver work products associated with ISO/IEC 15288 Enterprise, Project, and Technical Process Areas.
- Support development and implementation of engineering standards and processes.
- Plan and support engineering and process-improvement initiatives with complex or enterprise-level impacts.
- Independently resolve significant process and engineering issues requiring advanced judgment and analysis.
- Brief stakeholders and senior leaders on process performance, risks, improvement recommendations, and implementation status.
- Collaborate with systems engineers, program teams, technical personnel, and customer stakeholders to ensure process improvements support operational and mission objectives.
- Support organizational change and adoption activities associated with new or revised processes.
- Develop and maintain clear process documentation, guidance, training materials, and supporting artifacts.
- Mentor and coach teams and individuals on process-improvement practices and disciplined execution.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
One of the following is required:
- Bachelor’s degree in a Qualified Engineering Field or related discipline from an accredited college or university plus twenty (20) years of systems engineering experience; or
- High School Diploma or GED plus twenty-four (24) years of general systems engineering experience in any Process Area; or
- Master’s degree in a Qualified Engineering Field or related discipline from an accredited college or university plus eighteen (18) years of systems engineering experience; or
- PhD in a Qualified Engineering Field or related discipline from an accredited college or university plus eighteen (18) years of systems engineering experience.
Required Qualifications
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in one or more Process Areas defined in ISO/IEC 15288.
- Approve delivery of work products across ISO/IEC 15288 Process Areas.
- Plan and develop engineering projects with unique or complex aspects that impact major enterprise capabilities.
- Independently resolve important engineering issues requiring the use of advanced technology or methodology.
- Apply systems engineering principles throughout the system lifecycle, including Concept, Development, Production, Utilization, Support, and Retirement.
- Work effectively across Technical, Project, Enterprise, and Agreement Process Areas associated with ISO/IEC 15288.
- Communicate effectively with program personnel, government stakeholders, senior executives, and technical teams.
- Demonstrate responsibility for the technical integrity, quality, and completeness of assigned work products and deliverables.
Process Improvement Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience leading or supporting enterprise process improvement initiatives.
- Strong experience with Agile and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) practices.
- Experience with Lean Six Sigma or comparable process-improvement methodologies.
- Experience assessing, documenting, redesigning, and implementing business or engineering processes.
- Experience facilitating cross-functional teams and stakeholder working sessions.
- Strong experience using JIRA for workflow management, tracking, dashboards, and reporting.
- Experience using Confluence or similar collaboration and knowledge-management tools.
- Ability to develop process metrics, analyze performance data, and use findings to drive improvement.
- Strong problem-solving, facilitation, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to engage effectively with users, technical teams, managers, and senior leadership across the enterprise.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple complex improvement initiatives simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- SAFe certification such as SAFe Practice Consultant, SAFe Agilist, Release Train Engineer, or similar.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Experience supporting enterprise transformation or organizational change initiatives.
- Experience developing process governance, standards, SOPs, playbooks, or operating procedures.
- Experience creating executive-level dashboards, performance measures, and process-health reporting.
- Experience coaching teams through Agile or process-maturity improvements.
- Experience supporting large, distributed, or high-assurance federal mission environments.
