Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems Sector is seeking a Systems Engineer – Level 3 to join our team in Redondo Beach, CA.
*This position is contingent upon the candidate obtaining final clearances and program access(es) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to maintenance of the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future.
The Systems Engineer – Level 3 will serve as a Space Vehicle Systems Engineer, and the selected candidate will be expected to function in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment. The selected individual will regularly interface with program management, engineering staff, and external customers. Additionally, the selected candidate will provide leadership to the systems engineering effort, including direct and indirect management of engineers with limited oversight from engineering senior leadership personnel in a collaborative environment.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
-Implement and manage system requirements in Requirements Management (DOORS) and Task Management (JIRA) databases.
-Provide data for and assist in risk management (i.e., identifying potential risks) and trade study processes.
-Support system design, data analyses, interface verification, testing, and failure/anomaly resolution.
-Support the testing and/or evaluation/validation of one or more components of a system, subsystem analytical model, or actual system implementation.
-Prepare and present materials at major program milestone meetings.
-Handle technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, supportability, and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.
-Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
-Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Basic Qualifications for Systems Engineer – Level 3
-Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 5+ years of engineering experience OR
-Master's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 3+ years of engineering experience OR
-PhD in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 1+ year(s) of engineering experience
-Candidate must have an active U.S. Government Secret clearance (or equivalent/above) at time of application and prior to start date. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to maintenance of the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future.
-Strong technical problem solving, written, and verbal communication skills to generate and document system level vehicle requirements, perform vehicle performance assessments, and participate in system level verification/data review activities
-Strong resolve to drive tasks to completion autonomously
-Strong mentoring and training skills
Preferred Qualifications for Systems Engineer – Level 3
-Background in or familiarity with rapid development space programs
-Prior Space Vehicle System Engineering and/or Space Vehicle Design Integration experience
-Familiarity with Requirements & Verification processes
-Motivated self-starter with demonstrated experience working within Agile teams
-Familiarity utilizing COTS or near COTS-like products and adapting them to work for defense applications
-Experience in HITL/SITL development
-Software Coding Experience
-Master’s Degree and/or PhD in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline
-Excellent interpersonal skills
-Demonstrated experience with space flight hardware during integration, test, and launch campaigns
-Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
-Core knowledge or domain expertise in satellites or satellite subsystems such as propulsion, ACS, EPS, thermal, structures, etc.

Primary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
