Job Description

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • The Quonset Point Work Center Master Planning & Readiness team is looking for System Engineers to optimize production flow
  • Selected candidates will serve as an advocate for Operations, by performing analyses to help ensure an optimized environment is in place for building both VA & CLB Class Submarines
  • Responsibilities include Facility Planning, Work Center Design and Optimization, Strategic Sourcing decisions, Project Management, and critical asset/equipment/spatial demand and capacity analyses

The ideal candidate will determine the required spatial and other critical asset demands, establish & execute projects to ensure sufficient capacity is available to support this demand; define locations and layouts of work centers, submarine modules, and supporting equipment, as well as determine flow paths and access requirements. Selected candidates must regularly interface with Operations Management, Ship's Management, Program Offices, Facilities Master Planning team, and Strategic Sourcing Team.

This is an onsite position located at the North Kingstown, RI location.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree or higher in Engineering
  • 5+ years of post graduate combined Engineering, construction/manufacturing operations experience, or construction support experience
  • Strong computer skills: Candidates must be proficient in MS Excel

Preferred:

  • Experience with Factory Flow & Work Center design
  • Past experience with Lean, Kaizen, or Toyota Production Systems
  • Experience with submarine construction
  • Familiarity with trade work instructions and/or scheduling systems in a manufacturing facility
  • Proficiency in MS Project, Visio, Powerpoint, AutoCAD, Teamcenter/NX, Artemis planning system
  • Experience with risk analysis and/or risk management

Skills

Skills:

  • Excellent project management skills with a working knowledge of the principles of analytical problem solving techniques
  • Candidates must be able to analyze submarine production as a system, identify conflicts, develop plans to resolve issues, and recommend/apply potential improvements
  • The Candidate will apply Lean Design methods to design production systems to streamline submarine construction execution
  • The position also requires competent skills in written and verbal communication, problem identification, and problem solving
  • Candidates must be capable of combining assertive initiative with professional discipline to accomplish challenging tasks, and work as change agents to remove barriers that hinder change
  • The candidate will need to be able to work independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, networking ability, and business acumen
  • Ability to work in and access the production environment
