Under general supervision, provides technical support and implements solutions for MPS systems; coordinates and manages assigned projects.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following

• Programs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains IT systems equipment; tests and inspects equipment; aligns and adjusts equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
• Provides technical support for IT system users; defines problems, identifies and isolates errors, and implements technical solutions to solve problems; works independently, and makes appropriate decisions based on experience; performs work within scope of authority and training
• Monitors system environment, access, security, functionality and utilization; assures optimum performance, integrity and maximum uptime.
• Plans and manages assigned IT projects from design through completion, according to project time-lines, budgets, state and Federal regulations, and MPS standards; manages contractors, contracts, and special projects.
• Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools; track project milestones and deliverables; develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
• Monitors project worksite; evaluates project status and documentation; assures project meets job specifications, budget, schedule, quality and safety standards, and productivity goals.
• Manages contracts, identifies technical issues, and monitors project activities; reviews and approves change orders; evaluates and resolves contract and technical issues.
• Monitors, analyzes, and reviews systems and processes and makes recommendations that will increase application operating efficiency and promote an environment of customer cooperation and satisfaction.
• Evaluates and makes recommendations on IT system equipment to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Trains technical support and assigned department personnel to use and support fileservers and microcomputer software facilities and other system related devices and applications.
• Coordinates user support activities with other departments and divisions as assigned.
• Keeps records of equipment location, failures, and operational status.
• Assists in development of disaster recovery plans for fileservers and microcomputer systems.
• Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment
• Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
• Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.
• Has access to any and all documents contained on District servers and individual office personal computers. This includes highly confidential documents relating to individual employee private information, confidential departmental documents, including collective bargaining negotiations. Maintains strict confidentiality of all document contents on any District server or personal computer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

Associate’s Degree in computer technology or a closely related field; AND four (4) years of experience in programming; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

Knowledge of:

• Programming languages related to assigned area.
• Fileserver, operating systems and applications.
• Microcomputer operating systems and applications.
• Fileserver and microcomputer hardware.
• Data communications and physical security systems.
• Fileserver and microcomputer security packages.
• Principles and protocols for the management of MPS electronic information.
• IT access policies, and data security protocols.

Skill in:

• Preparing complex reports and graphics from fileserver and microcomputer data.
• Reading, interpreting and explaining complex materials.
• Analysis of security systems specifications.
• Debugging computer hardware and software.
• Contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit’s service to customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
• Maintaining knowledge of current technology and new computer user applications.
• Operating a personal computer utilizing specialized software, and entering information into a computer system with speed and accuracy.
• Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and clients.
• Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a computer laboratory and standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage. Requires vision capacity to perform fine calibrations and differentiate between colored wires.
