Job Description

The Systems Engineer applies their conceptual knowledge of Systems (Eng) and, with a moderate level of guidance and direction from colleagues and leadership, is responsible for solving a range of straightforward Systems (Eng) problems. They will be responsible for analyzing possible solutions using standard procedures and building knowledge of the company, processes, and customers. The Systems Engineer understands critical business drivers and applies this knowledge to solve problems in straightforward situations by analyzing possible solutions using technical experience, judgment, and precedents.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Catalog management, perform integration of SMAT and S3D systems
  • Integration in PDMS, S3D and E3D in detailed manner for design engineering, analysis, and calculations on more complex and demanding engineering tasks
  • Apply knowledge and skills to complete varied assignments
  • Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses including design reports and procedures
  • Prioritize and organize own work to meet deadlines
  • Focus on completing work within budgets
  • Clearly communicate and explain information in straightforward engineering activities
  • Catalog management, Ident Creation for multiple disciplines piping, electrical, structural, subsea, mechanical at global level
  • Perform core activities for BOM, PR/MR for all the disciplines and review MTOs for requisitions IN SMAT systems
  • Specification creation involves the activities of commodity code creation in SMAT project level and global level which internally created unique identifiers of size wise Ident of each component
  • Create dimensions and weights tables in the database and update them according to their dim/weights
  • Support project specification for all MDR offshore projects and provide support for bid activities
  • Recognize changes to scope and notify the discipline Lead Engineer
  • Bulkload catalog, spec and general file in S3D QA database and verify in the S3D systems that all components are getting placed properly
  • PDMS activities include add/update CATREFs Weights tables as per the sizes in the commodity codes in SMAT systems
  • Interface with other departments to obtain input for Discipline designs and drawings
  • Document substantive communications (communications that result in significant decisions or assignment of actions) and forward copies to Discipline Lead Engineer and Discipline Manager
  • Provide required bid inputs as directed
  • Review vendor and subcontractor submittals, checking for compliance with project specifications and providing comments as necessary
  • Check engineering performed by others within Discipline
  • Develop an awareness of costs related to own work and of the discipline
  • Responsible for preparing / checking the following key deliverables, applicable as per the Project scope:
    • Preparation of Conceptual Equipment Layout
    • SKEYs & GType mapping for all components
    • Verify CATREFs for PDMS files
    • Components like fitting/valves- Dimension/Weights tables are attached
    • Preparation of Valve MTO and Bulk MTO on basis of P&ID
    • Study of process flow sheets, P&ID diagrams, Piping specification and plot plans
    • Process flow diagrams (PFD)
    • Piping and instrument diagrams (P&ID)
    • Equipment and instrument process datasheets
    • Process specifications
    • Preparation of GA, Isometric & BOM
    • Equipment list (process data)
    • Line list (process data)
    • Equipment and line sizing calculations
    • Coordinate with the other discipline engineers of Client
    • Process studies

Reports to:
Project: Lead Engineer
Functional: Principal Systems Engineer/Supervisor
Liaise With: All design/drafting disciplines, all Engineering disciplines, Construction/Fabrication group and Document Control

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • 3-8 years in oil and gas with major contractor or consultant predominantly performing detail design
  • Bachelor’ Degree or Diploma with relevant work experience
  • Familiar with the S3D and SMAT systems and application of standards, codes, and guidelines as applicable Knowledge of Requisitions, piping components and many basic design techniques and analysis methods
  • Eager to learn
  • Working knowledge of English, both oral and written
  • HSE, TQM and cost conscious
  • Show flexibility and ensure proper hand-over with regards to:
    • The reassignment to other departments, construction sites and fabrication yards
    • The replacement of colleagues during illness and holidays
    • The provision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workload (also other projects) when possible/desirable
  • The managing/learning of future current working methods and software applications
  • Accredited engineering degree as may be required by specific regions
  • Is familiar with the use of codes and standards
  • 1–3 years of technical experience in large, complex engineering projects (preferably in the energy industry, HVDC, or other multidisciplinary project environments)
  • Awareness of RMSE Principles and processes (ISO15288) is beneficial
  • Proactive and well-organized with the ability to lead and implement project-wide work instructions
  • Strong soft skills (collaborative, interpersonal communication, motivation etc.) to engage stakeholders at all levels in a global project
  • Excellent command of English
  • Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Relatics, ARAS) is an advantage
  • Ability to Understand and allocate Employer Requirements (ER), Systems, Activities and Deliverables
  • Maintain the ER database in terms of Ownerships, Verification Activities and Change Management status
  • Coordinate with the Lead Systems Engineer , Project team and Project RMSE (Requirement management systems engineering) focal points across all disciplines
  • Understand and apply core Systems Engineering concepts effectively
  • Support the project team with tool-related queries within the RMSE database (e.g., Relatics, ARAS)
