General Information:

The Technical Project Manager is responsible for the complete required engineering deliverables from Requirements to final test including project effort estimation and overall time planning of big projects. He / she leads functional Technical Project Managers of all disciplines and coordinates the technical activities. He / she has to take care of issues which cannot be solved within one discipline team. Approves the technical solution of the product and drives the Product Release.
He/she is the main technical interface to the customer and supports the project manager by coordinating all disciplines and finding the best balance between system functionality and project costs.

Your Key Responsibilities:

Preliminary note:

  • The following lists many TPM responsibilities and much work content. It is clearly understood that the underlying work amount often cannot (and should not) be handled by one single person. Hence, work content may also be delegated to others within a system project, e.g. a Subsystem-TPM. However, the overall responsibility remains with the TPM.
  • Furthermore some responsibilities listed here are shared with dedicated roles within the system development project team (e.g. the requirements engineer or the test manager).
  • On the contrary, for reduced scope projects (e.g. a ""SW-only"" variant of an existing product) the work scope of the TPM role may be limited. Then roles may be combined, fulfilled by one person.
  • Also, depending on the Project type, specific BU PLC being followed or Project Size/Complexity (requiring multiple TPMs), not all responsibilities and tasks may apply to the assigned/single TPMs.

    Tasks:
  • Is responsible for time-wise and content-wise Release Planning.
  • Drives the aggregation of the technical status/maturity/deviations of a system configuration incl. dedicated risks towards a System Release.
  • Consolidates (w/ the tech. project team) the recommendation for releasing / not releasing towards the Engineering Release Manager (ERM).
  • TPM is authorized to reject the technical system release (i.e. in case of exceeded deviations of the product functional quality).
  • Is responsible for all system engineering work products according the engineering processes.
  • Leads the technical communication with the customer.
  • Is the main Technical Interface to the Customer (system only as STPL).
  • Ensure implementation of platform solutions.
  • Defines and monitors the responsibility/work split with the customer (Testing, Calibration, ...).
  • Ensures the proper Test Environments, equipment and/or specifications is available from the Customer.
  • Leads problem resolution as representative of the engineering within his project.
  • Is part of the CCB (change control board).
  • The TPM has to work according PLC and ensures PLC compliance within the engineering.
  • Uses the standardized processes, methods and tools within his/her scope of responsibility.
  • Ensure ASPICE compliance within the engineering.
  • Leads and/or co-ordinates all technical activities performed by engineering disciplines.
  • Supports the resource planning and role assignment.
  • Provide constructive feedback for team members.
  • Contributes to the build up and maintenance of a supportive culture by using the 3C's globally: Communication, Collaboration, Cooperation.
  • Contributes to the promotion of a learning organization (reflection loops).
  • Manage and moderate conflicts.
  • Supports the PM in the overall R&D effort monitoring.
  • Ensures the technical team works cost consciously towards meeting the R&D budget, including preventing unnecessary costs
  • Assures that customer induced cost increases are properly identified and addressed to the PM within Change Management
  • Supports, w/ the technical team, to achieve the TMC (Total Manufacturing Cost) target of the project
  • Ensures that the definition / selection of the design choices is aligned with the BOM. He/she approves the committed BOM from Engineering (where applicable at quote and during change mgt.)
  • Supports Cost-Reduction-Project (CRP) / DTC Activities
  • Supports Quote Activities by technical solution assessment, milestone review, and effort estimations..
  • Responsible for requirements analysis.
  • Leading technical reviews with Customer.
  • Support planning of overall project timing.
  • Support overall R&D budget estimate (inputs from the sub-disciplines).
  • Support concept development.
  • Responsible for technical description.
  • Ensure reuse of available technical content.
  • In alignment with the PM, establish the engineering teams' overall setup and work structure (meeting structure, information / knowledge exchange, documentation, archiving, etc.).
  • Is Responsible for consistency of all technical work products and activities.
  • Plans, agrees, schedules, monitors and prioritizes system engineering work packages and deliverables.
  • Owner of system detailed schedule, including the sub-system milestones.
  • Ensures Assignment and Tracking of Change Requests with the internal Subsystem-TPM's.
  • Assures the availability of agreed system documentations (FMEA, ISO26262, ...).
  • Monitors the technical documents defined in the configuration items list. Actively manages configuration items assigned to STP.
  • Define release proposal to the release responsible authorities.
  • Decide the overall technical solution of the product.
  • Steer technical project team
  • Assign the work packages to the project team members (delegation and direction)
  • Strong coloration with line managers for team assignments
  • Respects the confidentiality of information he/she has access to inside the company
  • Follows the instructions and requirements of management personnel inside the company.
  • Respects Internal Regulations and company's procedures.
  • Respects information security and data protection regulations.
  • Knows company quality policy and the impact of his activities in achieving quality targets.

Your Qualifications:

  • At least min. 6 years of experience in automotive field or relevant experience
  • One out of three:
  • experience with multiple PL`s
  • experience with a Platform/D1 product development
  • experience in leading technical discussions with customer
  • Mandatory to have D2 project experience (Effort estimation and Requirement engineering)
  • At least finished one project from Gate 30-90 successfully and managing min. 1 Class M or multiple Class S projects in parallel.
  • Complete Product Development process
  • 2- 4 years of functional leadership experience
  • Worked in an international team for minimum 2 years
