This position is responsible for technical project management of commercial vehicle steering systems, including electrohydraulic and fully electric steering systems. The role requires the ability to work independently, manage technical priorities, and collaborate across mechatronic product-development activities. The individual will work with a multidisciplinary development team—including systems, mechanical design, software, hardware, application and calibration, functional safety, cybersecurity, and project management professionals—to develop project-specific solutions for conventional, driver-assistance, automated-driving, and autonomous-vehicle applications.

The System Project Lead (SysPL) serves as the technical lead and technical counterpart to the Program Manager for the customer project. The SysPL is responsible for project-level technical integration and execution, coordinating across engineering disciplines to ensure that steering-system requirements are understood, aligned, validated, and completed within established project timelines.

  • Evaluate and align customer requirements across relevant engineering domains, including System, Software, Hardware, Functional Safety, Cybersecurity, and other technical disciplines, engaging domain experts as needed.
  • Coordinate technical activities across engineering domains to ensure an integrated steering system solution that meets customer and project requirements.
  • Support translation of customer requirements into system requirements and ensure appropriate requirements management and traceability using applicable requirements management tools.
  • Conduct system-level impact analysis for requirements and design changes and ensure appropriate validation is defined and completed.
  • Establish and maintain customer relationships as the technical project lead and primary engineering interface for assigned customer project(s).
  • Lead technical discussions with customers regarding steering system requirements, interfaces, performance, diagnostics, application, and system behavior.
  • Drive resolution of cross-functional technical issues, risks, and open points, ensuring clear ownership and timely closure.
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and coordinate appropriate engineering resources to resolve customer and system-level issues.
  • Ensure system development, validation, and delivery are performed according to applicable guidelines and processes (e.g., ISO 26262, ASPICE, IATF 16949, and applicable cybersecurity processes).
  • Lead the system-level release process, including assessment and documentation of system release for specified use cases with or without defined constraints, ensuring required validation evidence, open-point evaluation, and approvals are completed and documented.
  • Plan, schedule, and execute demonstration vehicle builds and retrofits, coordinating across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, software, and calibration teams to integrate steering systems into customer and prototype vehicle platforms.
  • Monitor, track, and drive completion of technical open points for system-level topics.
  • Support creation and implementation of the System FMEA and other system-level risk analyses, including review of Safety Failure Tree Analyses (FTAs) and Software Design Failure Analyses (DFAs), as applicable.
  • Assist in the creation and review of the technical safety concept and support system-level functional safety activities.
  • Create and release Technical Customer Documentation (TCD) and other required system-level technical documentation.
  • Plan and report project engineering, development, and testing budgets and costs.
  • Report project technical status, risks, open points, and budget status to management and relevant project stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Support continuous improvement and cost-reduction efforts throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead and coordinate steering system development activities for conventional applications as well as driver assistance, automated driving, and autonomous vehicle applications.
  • Coordinate and promote collaboration with global development locations, customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders to achieve project goals.
  • Travel approximately 15–20%, domestic and international, to customer, Bosch, and supplier locations as required.
