Your mission


We are looking for an experienced and people-oriented System Engineering Team Lead to lead our European system engineering team and take ownership of our core IT infrastructure services. The position is based in Budapest with a hybrid work schedule (2 days teleworking).
In this role, you will combine technical leadership with strategic ownership, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of critical platforms across a hybrid IT environment.

Your profile

Duties and responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a distributed system engineering team across Europe
  • Drive workforce planning, skills development, and team resilience
  • Ensure effective on-call coordination and operational readiness

Service & Infrastructure Ownership

  • Own end-to-end delivery of core IT services (virtualization, Active Directory, backup, etc.)
  • Ensure high availability, stability, and performance across all systems
  • Take full ownership of Windows and Linux server environments

Platforms & Architecture

  • Oversee VMware, Proxmox, and Kubernetes platforms (availability, capacity, performance)
  • Drive infrastructure design and lifecycle strategies aligned with business needs
  • Contribute to long-term architecture and modernization initiatives

Operations & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead incident management and act as escalation point for critical issues
  • Ensure proactive monitoring, risk detection, and operational excellence
  • Drive automation, standardization, and Infrastructure-as-Code adoption

Resilience, Security & Compliance

  • Define and enforce backup, disaster recovery, and resilience strategies
  • Ensure compliance with security policies, audits, and regulatory requirements
  • Lead remediation and continuous improvement from audit findings

Governance & Efficiency

  • Own change, maintenance, and release processes in a global environment
  • Manage infrastructure cost efficiency (PEX/OPEX transparency & optimization)
  • Oversee asset lifecycle, licensing, and documentation standards

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

  • Work closely with Network, Security, and Application teams internationally
  • Provide clear communication and documentation for technical and business stakeholders

Required Qualifications, Experience & Competencies

Professional Experience & Skills

  • 7+ years of experience in system engineering / IT infrastructure
  • Proven leadership or senior-level responsibility in complex environments
  • Degree in Computer Science or similar (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong expertise in Windows environments (Active Directory, Windows Server)
  • Hands-on experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, Proxmox)
  • Good knowledge of Linux systems
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure and/or AWS), ideally hybrid setups
  • Solid understanding of monitoring, alerting, and operational thresholds
  • Strong experience with Jira & Confluence (incident management, documentation)
  • Expertise in automation and scripting is a plus
  • Structured, documentation-driven and audit-ready minds
  • Strong leadership and people development skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management
  • Analytical, proactive, and solution-oriented approach
  • Focus on resilience, efficiency, and continuous improvement
  • Fluent English and Hungarian (written and spoken)
  • Willingness to travel internationally (10–20%)
