Job Description

Enterprise Solutions and Management (ESM) is a rapidly growing government contractor that provides strategic IT services that meet mission needs for Defense and Federal customers. We are hiring a System Engineer to support an enterprise-level program within a federal environment.

Job Description and Responsibilities

The System Engineer will be responsible for provisioning, configuring, operating, and maintaining on-premises and cloud infrastructure, with a focus on enterprise storage, availability, backup, and disaster recovery. Provide technical support and hands-on expertise for planning, implementation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of cloud and storage environments while ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements. Monitor and optimize system performance, capacity, backups, data restoration, and disaster recovery capabilities; coordinate and document DR failovers; and maintain high availability of critical applications and systems. Design, integrate, and manage storage arrays, fiber switches, file-sharing technologies, and related components. Conduct preventative maintenance, storage analysis, capacity and performance planning, and advanced troubleshooting. Develop and maintain technical documentation, policies, procedures, test plans, and reports, while researching emerging technologies and recommending enhancements to improve efficiency, reliability, and overall infrastructure performance.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA)

  • Knowledge of enterprise cloud and on-premises infrastructure, including storage systems, backup solutions, disaster recovery, operating systems, and related technologies.
  • Skills in storage administration and infrastructure management, including storage arrays, fiber switches, file-sharing technologies, capacity planning, and performance optimization.
  • Ability to design, implement, monitor, and troubleshoot complex infrastructure environments to ensure high availability, reliability, and performance.
  • Knowledge of backup, data restoration, and disaster recovery principles, including planning, testing, executing, and documenting DR failovers.
  • Skill in developing technical documentation, policies, procedures, test plans, and reports while ensuring compliance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to research emerging technologies, identify infrastructure improvements, and communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

Minimum Training, Education, and Certifications

  • Five (5) years of overall professional experience in the engineering field. This includes evaluating, manufacturing, and integrating enterprise-level storage and backup software technologies.
  • Three (3) years of hands-on experience managing hybrid storage infrastructure (Azure cloud and/or Amazon Web Services).
  • Two (2) years hands-on experience with enterprise SAN (Storage Area Network) management to include capabilities and technologies such as: Fiber Channel zoning, iSCSI, FCoE (Fiber Channel over Ethernet) unified fabric, HBA/CNA (Host Bus Adapter/Converged Network Adapter), storage controllers, and LUN (Logical Unit Number), RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks), and file sharing / NAS (Network Addressable Storage). Hands-on experience with enterprise hierarchical storage system management; operation of enterprise backup/restore services, using products such as Cohesity NetBackup, Amazon Web Services (AWS) Backup, Microsoft Azure Recovery Services/Site Recovery, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Backup and Disaster Recovery
  • DOD 8140 baseline certification - IAT Level II
  • Approved System or Cloud Engineer certification

Minimum Clearance

  • Top Secret

Physical Requirements

  • Required to stand, walk and sit; communicate verbally both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Physical demands associated with this position include extensive walking (including stairs) throughout offices and between buildings. May require use of public transportation, personal or Government vehicle to drive to local and/or remote office locations.
