Job Description

The System Director of Infusion Pharmacy provides executive leadership, operational oversight, and strategic direction for system-based ambulatory and hospital outpatient infusion pharmacy services across multiple infusion centers. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, compliant, efficient, and financially sustainable infusion pharmacy operations while advancing system growth, standardization, and optimization initiatives.

This position excludes home infusion services and focuses exclusively on health system-owned infusion centers and hospital-based infusion pharmacy operations, including both 340B clean sites and GPO-based locations.

The System Director partners closely with oncology leadership, nursing, finance, compliance, pharmacy leadership, supply chain, revenue cycle, and physician leadership to support high-quality patient care, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and strategic expansion of infusion services across the enterprise.

  • Develop and execute system-wide infusion pharmacy strategies aligned with organizational goals for growth, quality, patient experience, and financial performance.
  • Lead long-range planning for infusion pharmacy services, including capacity management, new site development, service line expansion, and operational scalability.
  • Standardize infusion pharmacy practices, workflows, policies, and technology across all infusion locations (as feasible).
  • Collaborate with executive and operational leadership to identify opportunities for optimization, efficiency, and service expansion.
  • Support strategic initiatives involving oncology, biologics, specialty medications, and infusion-based therapies.
  • Identify and implement strategies to improve financial performance, margin optimization, reimbursement capture, and cost containment.
  • Collaborate with finance and revenue cycle teams to optimize charge capture, reimbursement workflows, and medication utilization.
  • Support business planning, pro formas, and financial analysis for new infusion programs and expansion initiatives.
  • Collaborate with revenue cycle and authorization teams to improve prior authorization workflows, billing accuracy, reimbursement accuracy, and medication access processes.
  • Provide operational oversight for 340B clean-site infusion pharmacy programs and hospital-based GPO compliance.
  • Partner with compliance, pharmacy finance, and 340B program leadership to ensure adherence to all federal, state, manufacturer, and organizational requirements.
  • Ensure compliant inventory segregation, purchasing practices, documentation, and audit readiness.
  • Support internal and external audit activities related to infusion pharmacy operations and 340B compliance.
  • Partner with pharmacy and nursing leadership to support evidence-based clinical practices and standardized treatment protocols.
  • Lead quality improvement and medication safety initiatives across infusion operations.
  • Ensure compliance with USP, state board of pharmacy, Joint Commission, and other applicable standards.
  • Develop and manage operational and capital budgets for infusion pharmacy services.
  • Partner with pharmacy informatics, Epic/Beacon teams, revenue cycle and operational leaders to develop standardized EHR/system approaches for high-cost infusion therapies.
  • Establish multidisciplinary processes to monitor infusion medication denial trends, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and communicate systemwide learnings to improve awareness and prevent recurrence.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development for infusion pharmacy managers, pharmacists, and pharmacy support staff.
  • Manages staff resources by overseeing the recruiting, selecting, hiring, and orienting of qualified individuals.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, MBA preferred ( also board certified or equivalent BCPS), or Doctorate of Pharmacy.

  • Current Kentucky Board of Pharmacy and Indiana Pharmacist license, or eligible required.

  • Must obtain Kentucky and Indiana pharmacist license within 1 year.

  • 5 years of job-related experience required.
