YesGeisinger Laboratory Medicine is searching for a board-certified MD, PhD, or MD, PhD (or equivalent) Clinical Microbiologist to join the Department of Laboratory Medicine within the Diagnostic Medicine Institute.
Laboratory Medicine at Geisinger seeks an experienced doctoral-level clinical or molecular microbiologist at the associate to full professor level for the infectious disease diagnostic team. Teams are innovative in enhancing patient care and demonstrating the value of actionable hospital-based microbiology services.
Job Duties:
Oversee all aspects of Clinical Microbiology, collaborating with two other directors, providers, operational teams, and healthcare leadership. Full integration with infectious disease providers, pharmacists, quality teams, and other stakeholders.
Pre- and post-analytical aspects of infectious disease diagnostics, customer care, and client services, and value-based care
Integrated and standardized laboratory services include phenotypic, proteomic, biomarkers, and molecular methods
Diagnostic and antimicrobial stewardship and experience with antimicrobial susceptibility testing methods, including genetic resistance mechanisms
Standardized clinical, operational, quality, regulatory, and financial success for nine hospital-based laboratories, over 80 clinics, and external clients
Academic appointment in the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine is standard; teaching includes medical students, residents, fellows, clinical laboratory scientists, and other allied health professionals.
Strong communication and leadership skills, strategic thinking, project management expertise, and a solid understanding of group dynamics
Remote call capability and telemicroscopy
Total laboratory services test more than 15 million laboratory tests per year
44 pathologists and PhDs on staff
Position Details:
Candidates should be an MD/DO with board certification or eligibility in clinical pathology or microbiology, and eligible for licensure in Pennsylvania, or a PhD in a biological, chemical, or molecular science with ABMM board certification or eligibility. Qualification or eligibility as a Laboratory Director under CAP and CLIA is required, with experience in a CAP-accredited or equivalent clinical environment required.
