Job Description

System Architect (senior specialist) – Drive the architecture of next-generation medical device platforms

This is not a software architecture role.

At Coloplast, we develop and manufacture physical medical devices used by millions of people worldwide. As a Senior System Architect, you will help define the architectural foundations of future product families and platforms, enabling innovation, scalability, and efficient product development across generations of products.

You will shape how platforms are structured to support reuse, new technology, portfolio growth, manufacturability, and long-term business value together with other R&D disciplines.

Working at the intersection of product development, manufacturing, quality, and systems engineering, you will balance user needs, product performance, regulatory requirements, risk, and platform strategy to create robust and scalable architectural solutions. Your work will ensure that future products are built on well-defined architectural foundations that enable both innovation and efficient execution.

Join a team shaping the future of R&D

You will become part of our Requirements Engineering Team within the Centre of Excellence in R&D.

The team consists of highly skilled specialists within Requirements Engineering and Systems Architecture, working with our processes and platforms.

We support development projects across the organization and continuously strengthen how systems development is conducted in a regulated medical device environment.

Design architecture that enable innovation

As our new Senior System Architect, you will be responsible for defining and maintaining system architectures related to the products and product families for one of our Chronic Care business areas, serving as the architectural lead.

Working closely with product teams and stakeholders across R&D, you will transform business needs, user needs, stakeholder requirements, and technical opportunities into architecture decisions that balance innovation, manufacturability, regulatory compliance, risk, cost, and long-term scalability.

Specifically, you will:

  • Define and drive the platform strategy for a dedicated business area, enabling scalable product families, reusable platform assets, and accelerated delivery of future products.
  • Drive architectural decomposition into system capabilities, subsystems, interfaces, and architectural building blocks.
  • Establish and maintain architecture documentation and system structures.
  • Define system boundaries, interfaces, and allocation of functionality across the system.
  • Identify opportunities for platform reuse, standardization, modularization, and scalability.
  • Facilitate architectural trade-offs across business, technical, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and user perspectives.
  • Provide architectural guidance that ensures alignment between product architecture, platform strategy, manufacturing, quality, and development activities.
  • Support the understanding of the systems architecture discipline and the synergies to other development disciplines through close collaboration with key stakeholders across R&D and beyond

Strong architecture experience within complex product development

You combine strong systems thinking with the ability to navigate complexity and create practical solutions.

You enjoy collaborating across disciplines and are comfortable influencing decisions without having formal management responsibility. You are motivated by solving real development challenges and helping teams make sound architecture decisions. You take initiative and focus on opportunities and solutions rather than constraints.

What we expect from you:

  • 5+ years of experience working with Systems Architecture, Systems Engineering, or development of complex multidisciplinary products.
  • Experience defining system architecture and driving technical decisions in product development programs.
  • Strong understanding of systems thinking and Systems Engineering principles.
  • Experience working across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • You thrive both when driving tasks independently and when working closely with colleagues to achieve shared goals
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and create alignment across functions.
  • Experience from regulated industries such as medical devices, life science, aerospace, defence, industrial automation, robotics, or similar.
  • Understanding of requirements engineering, risk management, verification, and validation.
  • Experience with modular architectures, platform development, and reusable solutions.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex topics to a broad stakeholder audience.
  • Experience defining system boundaries, interfaces, and reusable architectural building blocks that support platform-based product development.
  • Motivated by both shaping long-term architectural direction and contributing to successful day-to-day product delivery.

You might also bring

  • Experience from medical device development.
  • Knowledge of ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 62304, IEC 62366, or similar standards.
  • Experience with technology roadmaps and long-term architecture planning.
  • Experience working with external development partners.
  • Experience with architecture modelling approaches and tools.

Please note: Seniority level will be determined based on your experience (specialist or senior specialist)

Why join us?

This is a unique opportunity to influence some of Coloplast's most important development programs while helping establish platform-based development as a key capability across R&D.

You will work with highly skilled colleagues, contribute directly to products that improve people's lives, and play a vital role in enabling future innovation through strong system architecture.
