Idaho Power Company (IPC) — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for a System Administrator or Seniors to join our Load Serving Operations Technology team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. Our work plays a critical role in communities we serve across Idaho and Oregon, and we’re working hard to safely provide our customers with the safe, reliable, and affordable energy they depend on. This position will be based at our West Boise office. In addition to the meaningful work we do, we offer work-life balance, competitive pay and benefits, an employee incentive plan, and both a 401k employer-match and a pension plan, making Idaho Power one of the best employers in the state.

What does a System Administrator do for us?

We are seeking an individual who enjoys solving complex technical problems, collaborating across teams, troubleshooting multi-system integrations, and thrives as a self-starter in dynamic, unstructured environments. As a member of the Grid Solutions team, the System Administrator will support high-visibility projects, compliance activities, and real-time operations technologies and their users. Their role will predominantly focus on supporting the Outage Management System (OMS), Switch Order Management (SOM), and model maintenance, while providing secondary support for the Energy Management System (EMS). These mission-critical applications are used to monitor and control the electric grid in real time. Additionally, this position will support Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) compliance activities, including asset management and monitoring, patching, baseline configuration, evidence collection, and audit readiness.

A System Administrator will also:

  • Own the reliability, availability, and performance of OMS, SOM, model maintenance, and EMS applications, ensuring continuous operation of mission-critical grid systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex system, integration, and data issues, applying structured root‑cause analysis with urgency in real‑time operational environments
  • Monitor system health and analyze operational data, logs, and alerts to diagnose issues, reconstruct events, identify trends, and drive system improvements
  • Ensure data integrity and consistency across integrated platforms, validating system inputs, outputs, and interactions with strong attention to detail
  • Design, build, and maintain system integrations, including API‑based and stand‑alone solutions, enabling reliable data exchange between operational technologies
  • Leverage automation, scripting, and programming to improve efficiency, accuracy, and reliability of operational processes
  • Support CIP compliance through disciplined change and configuration management, including asset management, patching, baseline configuration, monitoring, evidence collection, and audit readiness
  • Collaborate with internal teams, end users, and vendors, exercising sound technical judgment, maintaining documentation, and operating independently to implement fixes, upgrades, and enhancements

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Knowledge of:

  • API integrations and system-to-system data exchange methods
  • Monitoring, logging, and alerting tools used in high-availability environments
  • Change and configuration management practices in regulated environments
  • Application lifecycle management, including upgrades, patching, and deployments
  • Cybersecurity principles and standards relevant to operational technology (OT) systems

Skills in:

  • Administering and supporting mission-critical, real-time systems with strict availability requirements
  • Scripting, coding, and automation to improve efficiency, accuracy, and reliability
  • Developing documentation, standard processes, and technical procedures that support auditability
  • Managing vendor relationships, including coordination, escalation, and solution delivery
  • Analyzing large datasets to identify anomalies, trends, and improvement opportunities
  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and root-causing complex, multi-system issues using logs, data, and system outputs

Ability to:

  • Work independently with urgency in real-time, operationally sensitive environments
  • Learn new systems and technologies quickly with minimal direction
  • Apply sound technical judgment and take initiative in ambiguous or unstructured situations
  • Execute detailed, accuracy-driven work while adhering to compliance and audit requirements
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Build strong working relationships across teams and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining focus on reliability and compliance
