About the Role
As our System Administrator, you’ll take ownership of our server and identity environments—designing, administering, and securing our Windows and Linux server and identity ecosystems. Reporting to the Director of Digital Infrastructure and Support Services, you’ll serve as a vital technical lead driving system uptime, identity management, automation, and cybersecurity.
What You’ll Do
- Manage Core Server & Virtualization Infrastructure: Administer and upgrade Linux (Red Hat/CentOS/Debian) and Windows servers, enterprise VMware environments, and SAN storage systems (iSCSI/Fibre Channel), and design appropriate solutions that leverage cloud infrastructure.
- Drive Security & Compliance: Fortify security by implementing NIST and PCI standards and best practices, managing SSL certificates, and strengthening enterprise disaster recovery protocols.
- Lead Identity Management & SSO Integrations: Serve as the primary Active Directory, Azure, and Google Workspace administrator, as well as manage the identity solutions that provide SSO, LDAP, and MFA to secure access for students, faculty, and staff.
- Automate & Integrate Systems: Develop and maintain configuration and automation that leverages existing Python, Bash, SQL, and/or PowerShell scripts and modernizes those solutions to streamline operations and connect essential platforms like Banner, Blackboard, PaperCut, and others.
- Oversee Backup Architecture and Testing: Ensure that the College has appropriate backups and regularly recovery testing.
- Manage Technical Documentation: Develop and maintain technical runbooks, architecture diagrams, and system documentation.
- Support Campus Community: Collaborate across departments to troubleshoot complex system issues and deliver reliable technical services to a diverse academic community.
What We’re Looking For
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (equivalent extensive work experience fully considered in lieu of a degree).
- Server Administration: 3+ years of hands-on experience managing both Linux and Windows Server environments.
- Virtualization & Storage: 3+ years managing VMware or similar virtual infrastructure and SAN storage (iSCSI/Fibre Channel).
- Cybersecurity: Proven experience managing infrastructure to meet NIST and PCI security standards, maintaining enterprise backup and recovery solutions, managing SSL certificates, and using other security solutions to protect the enterprise environment.
- Database Support: Knowledge of Oracle and MySQL/MariaDB database systems.
- Scripting Skills: Proven ability to automate workflows, including through scripting using Python, Bash, Perl, SQL, or related languages.
- Identity & Access Management: Solid background in identity and access provisioning, Active Directory, LDAP, and SSO/MFA implementations.
- Support Experience: 3+ years in user-facing technical support, with strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in higher education IT environments.
- Experience with enterprise disaster recovery management.
