As part of the service to the ESA Programmatic IT Section you will be one of the System Administrators in the Infrastructure and Cybersecurity (I&C) team.

The I&C sub-unit provides IT services, solutions and consultancy in scientific and operations IT infrastructure and cybersecurity across the department. I&C also designs, operates and maintains.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Linux Administration Manage, maintain, and optimize enterprise Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments to ensure high availability and performance.
  • Automation & Configuration Management Design, develop, and maintain automated workflows, playbooks, and roles to streamline system deployment and post-installation configuration.
  • Lifecycle & Patch Management Standardize, patch, and manage software repositories and system deployments across development, staging, and production environments.
  • Network Integration Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain core networking components, ensuring secure and efficient connectivity for all enterprise systems.
  • Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Conduct root-cause analysis for system alerts, performance bottlenecks, and network issues, implementing long-term remediations.

Requirements

The following skills are required:

  • Master Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent qualification with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Senior System Administration, extensive experience in Linux/Unix system administration (preferably on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Solaris).
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL): Expert-level knowledge of RHEL (versions 8/9), including advanced storage management (LVM), security patching, user administration, and performance tuning.
  • Ansible: Deep proficiency in creating, testing, and deploying Ansible Playbooks and Roles to automate repetitive operational tasks and orchestrate complex deployments.
  • Red Hat Satellite: Experience utilizing Satellite for centralized lifecycle management, provisioning, patch management, and subscription control.
  • Networking: Solid understanding of core networking concepts, including TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, firewalls (iptables/firewalld), and DNS/DHCP. Ideally based on CISCO technology. Able to diagnose complex cross-system and cross-network issues in production environments.

Additional skills that will be highly valued:

  • ServiceNow, experience integrating infrastructure components with Asset Management and CMDB ServiceNow modules
  • Zabbix or Prometheus and Grafana stack: Expertise administrating and using those monitoring tools for improve the visibility of infrastructure services
  • Puppet: Experience with Puppet as configuration management technology.
  • Splunk: Integration of system logs and configuration and usage of Splunk dashboards.
  • Other infrastructure core technologies like, DNS, DHCP, VMware vSphere or VCF.
  • Loadbalancing F5 Big-IP, familiarity with the Big-IP platform.


Preferred Certifications Candidates holding the RHCE will be given significant priority in the selection process.

  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).


Legal and Security Requirements

  • All applicants must be legally allowed to work in Spain without the need to obtain a work visa. Only European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and SWISS citizens can be employed by SSC Space in Netherland.
  • Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. SSC Space Netherlands B.V. will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA.
  • In line with ESA’s security requirements, prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to SSC Space Netherlands B.V. a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident, and SSC Space Netherlands B.V. will validate your employment history.
