In this role, you'll:


The Systems Administrator at Transport for NSW manages and optimises server, cloud and software infrastructure to ensure secure, reliable ICT services. The role operates with a level of autonomy, balancing proactive and reactive support while exercising sound judgement to escalate risks when required. It supports a large, complex organisation delivering major infrastructure and customer‑focused services across NSW.

Key responsibilities include monitoring and tuning system performance, resolving complex incidents, and reducing operational risk through strong controls, documentation and recovery practices. The role installs and upgrades hardware and software, automates routine tasks, maintains cybersecurity compliance, and evaluates emerging cloud and automation technologies to ensure they deliver business value without affecting system stability.

The role requires strong systems administration experience, problem‑solving ability, and data analysis skills to drive continuous improvement. Effective communication, collaboration and resilience are essential, supported by working knowledge of project, financial and procurement processes. The Systems Administrator works closely with leaders, teams and external stakeholders, providing expert advice while upholding public sector values and customer service standards.

About you


You are a senior Systems Administrator with strong AWS and Azure expertise, experienced in managing and administering cloud‑based environments at scale. You bring a service‑oriented, availability‑focused mindset, with proven monitoring and incident management experience, strong system administration skills, and the ability to clearly communicate technical information to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

You have hands‑on exposure to enterprise applications within complex environments and are confident supporting, maintaining and improving the systems the organisation relies on. You hold relevant cloud qualifications or equivalent experience, with deep practical knowledge of AWS and Azure administration, security, performance and reliability.

It is advantageous if you have experience with supporting Customs off the Shelf (COTs) tools such as, Serraview, Objective, Metro locker, Riskonnect, Jira, Confluence, Railsys, and collaboration platforms like Figma and Mural, supporting modern DevOps, monitoring and delivery practices.
