Job Title:
Sybase IQ Database Administrator
A Sybase IQ professional is responsible for designing, administering, and optimizing Sybase IQ databases ,a column-oriented RDBMS widely used for analytics and data warehousing. The role involves installation, configuration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting in complex and multiplex enterprise environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, configure, and upgrade Sybase IQ databases (Simplex and Multiplex setups).
Monitor database health and optimize performance using tools like Sysmon and DBCC.
Implement backup and recovery strategies, including disaster recovery planning.
Manage user access, roles, and security compliance.
Perform data migrations, replication, and synchronization across nodes.
Automate routine DBA tasks and monitor system alerts proactively.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams for troubleshooting and project delivery.
Document processes and provide knowledge transfer to internal teams.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of Sybase IQ architecture, multiplex configuration, and utilities (BCP, ddlgen, Sybase Central).
Proficiency in SQL/T-SQL and query optimization techniques.
Experience with Sybase ASE, Replication Server, and related tools.
Hands-on experience with performance tuning, indexing strategies, and deadlock management.
Familiarity with Linux/Unix and Windows environments.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
3+ years of experience in Sybase IQ administration and development.
SAP Sybase IQ certification is a plus.
